ISLAMABAD, May 26: As complaints about water shortage increased in the city, Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Syed Tahir Shahbaz on Sunday directed the water management wing to hire private tankers to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to the residents.

He said effective measures should be taken to meet the requirements as there was sufficient water storage.

As the prolonged power outages interrupted smooth supply of water, tubewells should be operated on generators.

The Capital Development Authority chief stated this while presiding over a meeting held to review progress on the water shortage complaints from the consumers.

He directed the member engineering to hire the private water tankers in addition to those in the CDA fleet.

He also ordered necessary repair and maintenance of the CDA water tankers.

He said due to the rains in March and April, sufficient water was available in Simly Dam while the underground water table had also improved.

The rise in temperatures during the last a few days and the power outages have increased the demand of water.

However, the authority has planned to operate the tubewells on generators to help improve the supply.

Besides, the civic agency has further increased supply from the Simly Dam on a daily basis to meet the demand, said the CDA chairman.

Mr Shahbaz also requested the residents to take precautionary measures in the usage of water and not to waste clean water for gardening and car washing.

Member engineering Sanaullah Aman informed the meeting that the water level in Simly and Khanpur dams had improved due to the rains.

He said the water management wing had formulated a strategy to meet the water requirement of the citizens till the end of the year.

He said the repair and maintenance work on dysfunctional tubewells had also been expedited.
