ACCEPTABLE FORMATS FOR ADVERTISEMENT MATERIAL
1. Digital data.
- All advertisement material received from the advertiser or the advertising agency must be in the form of Digital Data. Any other form of advertisement material will not be acceptable.
- Although advertisement material on floppy diskettes, compact disks, jazz, zip drives and other external drives can be downloaded on the PHPL system, the advertiser or advertising agency must provide their external system to transfer the material.
- An offset printed color proof on newsprint is mandatory for color matching purposes. Laser or computer print outs will not be accepted as color proofs, but only as visual references that cannot guarantee the required result.
- Color percentages on the digital data will be followed during printing. If color percentages other than those on the digital data have to be followed, written and signed instructions by the advertiser or the advertising agency must be attached to the advertisement material and the release orders.
- Only under exceptional circumstances, and in the presence of a PHPL representative, can the advertiser or the advertising agency view color percentages on the digital data. For this purpose an appointment must be made in advance to ensure the availability of PHPL personnel in the pre-press section.
- If a font required for the advertisement is not available, the advertiser or the advertising agency will be requested to select a substitute font from the Font Library at PHPL. The substitution must be authorized and signed by the advertiser or the advertising agency.
- To ensure the printing of reverse typefaces in black and white advertisements, the minimum point size must be eight-point bold. Laser prints for typefaces in reverse will only be accepted in nine-point bold or above.
- Advertisement material on digital data will be tested for viruses. If the material fails the virus-test, it will be returned to the advertiser or the advertising agency.
- PHPL will retain the downloaded digital data for seven days subsequent to the printing of the advertisement.
2. Reflection copies - artwork.
- Artwork with or without transparencies will be accepted.
- Signed instructions on color requirements must be marked on the overlay and repeated on a separate sheet. No responsibility for matching watercolors is taken, although every care will be taken to match the color.
3. Color, black and with advertisements: reflection copies, pre-printed material on art/offset or other
forms of paper.
- Unless line and continuous tone material is provided separately, the quality of the printed result in the above format of reflection copies, particularly for line half tone combinations, cannot be guaranteed and will be the responsibility of the advertiser or advertising agency.
- Signed instructions for color advertisements must be marked on the overlay, repeated on a separate sheet, signed and attached to the advertisement material.
- Although utmost care will be taken to ensure a correct match at the time of printing, no responsibility is taken in matching watercolor shades.
4. Graphic film for offset print.
- As facilities are only provided by PHPL to process advertisements that conform to 100 LPI and 1200 DPI specifications for both black and white and color advertisements, no guarantee is given for the print result quality of advertisements provided with a different LPI or DPI.
5. Special guidelines for color printing.
- Gold (Pantone number 871C to 876C), silver (Pantone number 887C), dark brown, orange and purple will be charged as fifth colors in web and sheet fed printing.
NB: because there are over hundred Pantone shades for dark brown, orange and purple, the advertiser or the advertising agency must specify the Pantone number required for these colours. Additional charges will be levied for the use of certain colours including gold and silver.
- Only fluorescent colors ranging from Pantone number 801C to 814C can be printed as a special color without mixing. As the availability of these inks in the market is limited, the advertiser and the advertising agency are requested to give sufficient prior notice and check in advance with PHPL's Marketing Department regarding the availability of these inks. A premium in accordance with the current market prices for these special inks and extra production costs will be charged.
6. Printing limitations
- No facilities are available for printing print-coated shades or double impression shades.
7. Complaints.
- Complaints must be sent in writing to DAWN Marketing, in the relevant city no later than 48 hours after the advertisement has been printed. For Sundays and public holidays the complaint may be filed within 72 hours. The original copy of the faxed complaint must follow complaints sent by fax.
- If more than one insertion is scheduled and a print result problem occurs when the first advertisement is printed, the advertiser or the advertising agency is responsible for informing the DAWN Marketing so that the problem can be solved before the next insertion is printed. Complaints will not be entertained regarding any advertisement that has already been printed. The advertiser or the advertising agency may make a complaint aimed at avoiding problems regarding the printing of the remaining insertions.
- The Supplements Section will not approve any Free Make Good (FMG) advertisements if there is an error in the editorial content of a Supplement and not in the advertisement.
