Mehdi Ali Siddiqi, 97: Noted judge, poet and author, on Jan 11

Rao Farman Ali, 82: General Farman Ali was the military adviser to the governor of East Pakistan in 1971 and a former federal minister, on Jan 20

General A.K.Niazi, 89: Commander of the eastern command in 1971 war, on Feb 1

Malika Pukhraj, 91: Classical singer, prominent vocalist of the ageless Abhi to Mein Jawan Hoon, on Feb 4

Ali Haider Joshi, 90: Prominent Pashto poet, on Feb 6

Khalid Ishaq, 77: Eminent lawyer and an expert on Islamic law, on Feb 7

Mian Abdus Sattar Laleka, 51: Federal minister for labour and overseas Pakistani. Entered politics after winning 1985 non-party polls and since then he won all general elections, on Feb 13.

Anwar Pasha: Veteran boxer and Olympian. He competed in Olympics which saw Pakistani participants for first time in boxing, on Feb 22

Begum Doulat Khanum Hidayatullah, 89: Eldest child of Haji Sir Abdoola Haroon and Lady Nusrat Haroon. Begum Hidayatullah was a founder member of the All Pakistan Women's Association and was later appointed its life president after the demise of Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan, on March 7

Ejaz Hussain Batalvi, 80: Juristand litterateur, he was among the pioneers of the Halqa Arbab-i-Zauq, in Lahore, on March 7

Aslam Riaz, 80: Former Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court and judge of the Supreme Court and Punjab governor. Was a member of the 11-member bench which upheld the death sentence of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, on March 10

Sarwar Jehan Zuberi, 71: Well-known nephrologist and editor of the journal of the Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA). She died from an infection following a blood transfusion. Was scientist emeritus and director of the Pakistan Medical and Research Council, on March 17

Abdul Masood Khan: Former air vice-marshal during the 1965 war, on April 3

Shah Rafi Alam, 72: A lieutenant-general who contributed greatly in two wars Pakistan fought with India. He received the Sitara-I-Juraat for his services in the 1965 war, on April 5.

Sardar Mohammad Khan Barozai, 80: First speaker of the Balochistan Assembly and former chief minister, on May 2

Muhammad Nawaz: Pakistan's best-known javelin thrower, Nawaz had represented Pakistan in many national and international athletic meets including the Olympics(1956 and 1960), the Asian Games (1954,1958 and 1962), the Commonwealth Games (1954 and1960) and the World Military Games in 1955, on May 13
