PESHAWAR, May 23: Police seized precious artefacts and arrested two alleged smugglers from Afghan Colony here on Thursday.

Faqirabad police station SHO Riaz Khan told media persons that following information that an attempt would be made to smuggle the artefacts from Peshawar to Rawalpindi the police checked a van (LES-6230) and recovered the relics.

“We have also arrested two alleged smugglers, identified as Farhad of Afghan Colony and Atlas Khan of Hazara,” he said and added that further investigation was underway.

Another official said that a total of 29 pieces had been seized and according to initial confirmation from archaeologists these artefacts were 300 years old, which had been recovered from parts of Swabi and Afghanistan.

He said that Persian words were engraved on these artefacts. However, he said that further details could be known after experts’ opinion about the valuable items.

The official said that a case had been registered against the accused at Faqirabad police station.
