RAWALPINDI, May 13: The police on Monday arrested a losing candidate of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf for PP-10, along with his 14 supporters.

Police allege they stormed the returning officer’s office and hurled threats on him, police said.

Omer Tanveer Butt was arrested by the Civil Lines police from judicial complex on Monday and later produced, along with his supporters, in the court of civil judge Fahim Shah who sent all them to Adiala jail for 14-days.

Khalid Mehmood Balooch, assistant returning officer, in a complaint to the police said that he was working at his officer at around 1.30am when he saw observed some people shouting and heading towards the returning officer’s chamber.

“As I came out of my office, I saw some people heading towards the chamber of Mohammad Yar Gondle and shouting, “catch him’, “catch him”,” Balooch said and added: “I identified the leader of the protesters who was a candidate for provincial assembly.”

He wanted to see the returning officer to get the election results.

The complainant claimed that the contesting candidate and his supporters had a brawl with the staff of the court of additional district and session judge and also attempted to snatch the service card of steno-typist Amjad Ali.

The protesting political workers were detained by the police along with their leader.—Mohammad Asghar
