GUJRANWALA, May 1: A resident engineer has accused the men of a construction company of manhandling him on his refusal to approve a flyover ‘constructed with substandard material’.

The flyover is being constructed on GT Road at the cost of Rs4 billion. The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), which has been given the contract, has been allegedly using substandard material in the flyover construction.

It’s said that Nespak engineers pointed to the use of substandard material in the construction of the flyover. Resident engineer Hamad Sandhu said the construction company wanted to hand over the flyover to the district administration for opening on May 8 that’s why it was pressurising him to approve the flyover.

He said that company’s men manhandled him when he tried to check the construction work and refused to approve the flyover. He said he lodged a report with the Civil Lines police, but he had yet to get a copy of the first information report (FIR).

ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency on Wednesday claimed to have arrested at least six human traffickers during a crackdown and seized several passports and documents from them.

RALLY: Workers of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company and various industrial units took out a rally in connection with the Labour Day.

Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union and Workers Federation organised the rally, which was led by Iqbal Dar and Waliur Rehman.
