Body found in gunnysack

PESHAWAR, April 7: The Mathra police on Sunday found a body stuffed in a gunny bag in Charpareeza village here.

The victim was identified as Fahim Hussain, son of Ghulam Hussain, resident of Zarif Korona area. A chit lying beside the body carried the victim’s and his father’s name and place of his residence.

The relatives of the victim told the Mathra police that Fahim Hussain had mysteriously disappeared on January 24, 2010.

The FIR of his disappearance was registered with the Khan Raziq Shaheed police station on March 10, 2012.

The Mathra police registered FIR against unknown killers and started further investigation.—Bureau Report

Anti-polio drive in Bajaur

KHAR, April 7: Bajaur Agency Political Agent Abdul Jabar Shah on Sunday directed the health officials and the World Health Organisation to step up efforts to eradicate polio from the region.

He was speaking at a meeting of the senior officials of the health department and representatives of WHO and Unicef. Arrangements for the upcoming anti-polio drive starting from April 15 and other issues came under discussion.

The WHO and health officials informed the political agent that anti-polio activities in the agency were going without any trouble.

The political agent said the administration wanted the agency to be cleared of polio disease.

The political agent asked the health officials and WHO functionaries to enhance coordination with the local elders, including religious leaders, to achieve the target.

The meeting decided that female workers will not take part in the upcoming anti-polio drive and the levies personnel will accompany the polio workers.—Correspondent

‘Swabi stronghold of ANP’

SWABI, April 7: ANP claims that Swabi has always been its stronghold, which will be proven again during the upcoming general elections.

ANP electoral candidates, while addressing a ceremony to open the party’s election office in Maneri union council on Sunday, said the red flag followers, like in the past, will never vote against the party candidates.

Speaking on the occasion, former MNA Mr Rehmanullah, who is ANP candidate from NA-12, Swab-I, said ANP workers have rendered numerous sacrifices and they will continue to struggle for the success of the party.

Gul Zamin Shah, ANP candidate from PK-31, Swabi-I, said Maneri had remained the stronghold of the party. The workers have got united to expose the propaganda and baseless predictions of rival candidates, he added.

He urged the workers to reach every nook and corner of the district while giving the party message to the voters.—Correspondent

Abducted Pesco workers freed

PESHAWAR, April 7: Four men, who were kidnapped after an attack on a grid station in Shaikh Mohammadi area on Tuesday last, returned home on Sunday.

Four abducted employees of the Pesco, including Engr Shoaib Rabbani, Fahim Khan, Hafiz Faiz ul Bari and Zeeshan Khan, reached home safely on Sunday, according to a press release issued by the power company.

Seven people, including four Wapda employees and three policemen, were killed in the attack, which left various areas of Peshawar without power as the 500kv grid station was destroyed in the assault.—Bureau Report

Rejection of papers

MARDAN, April 7: The JUI-F candidate for PK-28 constituency Hafiz Akhtar Ali on Sunday said his nomination papers were rejected owing to lack of coordination between the University of Peshawar and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

He was speaking at a press conference after rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer concerned. He was flanked by JUI-F workers.

Mr Ali, who remained provincial minister during the MMA tenure, said he had obtained different religious sanads and degrees equitant to metric, FA, BA and MA between 1979 and 1990.

He pointed out that he did his BA and MA from the UoP between 2007 and 2010. He, however, said he submitted all his religious sanads and degrees, but the returning officer concerned rejected his nomination papers on the basis of non-availability of his FA certificate in the education document.

He said his documents had been verified by the UoP were under process in the HEC.—Correspondent

Data of arrested children

PESHAWAR, April 7: The government has asked the concerned departments to cooperate with Child Protection and Welfare Commission (CPWC) in providing the data regarding children who are confined in jails or in custody of reclamation and probation department (RPD).

Provincial police officer, IG prisons, DG prosecution and director reclamation and probation have been asked to provide the data containing exact facts and figures pertaining to the children who have either been arrested by provincial police, confined in jails or in the custody of RPD, according to a press release issued by the home and tribal affairs department on Sunday.

The authority has also been directed to nominate a focal person in their respective departments for better coordination with CPWC regarding sharing data on children within the parameters of existing laws and rules.

The CPWC shall put robust confidentiality protocols to protect the sensitive data and obtain consent of the stakeholders before sharing it with a third party.—APP
