Two killed for honour

ABBOTTABAD, April 3: A man killed his daughter and her alleged paramour in Lora village of Havelian on Wednesday.

Sources said the accused came to the Lora police station and stated he had killed his daughter and her friend when he found them together in the cattle pen in the house. The police registered the case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, the Abbottabad police declared 22 poling stations as most sensitive and 79 sensitive in a report submitted to the district administration and the election commission. Police sources said total 197 polling stations would be established in Cantt circle for which a security plan had been prepared.

The district police have increased patrolling in the city and deployed additional personnel around the election offices of the candidates, the general bus stand and other spots to keep vigilant eye on the movement of suspected people and Afghan refugees.—Correspondent

SHO, livestock official arrested

KOHAT, April 3: The police on Wednesday arrested two officials for facilitating smuggling of cattle illegally to Afghanistan on fake permits.

The station house officer of Thall police station Sher Bahadar Khan and assistant director of livestock Misal Khan were arrested and put behind bars for hand in glove with cattle smugglers. The two officials had also been arrested last month on suspicion of their involvement in cattle smuggling and were warned against indulging in the practice again. The cattle export to Afghanistan was stopped last year due to shortage of animals in Pakistan.—Correspondent

Young man stabbed to death

TIMERGARA, April 3: A young man was stabbed to death when rivals attacked him at Shalkandai village in the jurisdiction of Munda police station, police and residents said.

Relatives of the slain youth, identified as Anwar Syed, charged Rohullah Shakir and his brother Ihsanullah Shakir with the murder while reporting to the police. The motive behind the incident is said to be a land ownership dispute. The police registered a case and started investigation while the accused escaped the scene after the crime, police said.

Meanwhile, the Lower Dir administration on Wednesday launched a weeklong cleanliness and anti-encroachment drive in Timergara. The TMA staff led by assistant commissioner Tariq Ali Khan removed illegal cabins and pushcarts on roads. Tariq Ali told reporters the traders had been asked to observe cleanliness in the city and cooperate with local administration. —Correspondent

Two kidnapped in Hangu

KOHAT, April 3: Unknown militants on Wednesday kidnapped another two people from Shina Warai area of Hangu.

The police identified the victims as Amir Khan, son of Sher Badshah, and Abu Bakr, son of Dost Mohammad.

Earlier, three people had been kidnapped from Jandi Darsamand area of Hangu whose bodies were recovered after five days from the nearby fields on Sunday. One of them had been beheaded while other two had been shot in the head from point blank range.

Meanwhile, an explosive device went off in Madina colony in Hangu on Wednesday. Police said unidentified terrorists had planted a bomb near a house in Madina colony which exploded with a bang. No casualties or damage to property was reported. The Hangu city police registered case and launched investigations.—Correspondent

Police clueless about robbers

SWABI, April 3: Police have failed to find any clue to the robbers who looted a bank in Razaar tehsil on Tuesday.

However, Superintendent of Police Dr Mian Mohammad Saeed said they would reach the robbers soon as guard of the bank had been taken into custody. However, the sources said that so far no clue to the robbers had been found and no one was arrested.

It has been learnt that the robbers failed to open the safe of the bank and decamped only with what they could manage from the customers and counters of the bank.

Meanwhile, the robbery incident has prompted the banks to raise their security.—Correspondent

KHAR, April 3: Commandant Bajaur Scouts Col Shakeel Janjua has said personnel of Bajaur Scouts have played vital role in the restoration of peace and clearing the agency of militants.

He was addressing a ceremony on the occasion of passing out parade of the recruits here on Wednesday.

Contractor shot dead

GHALANAI, April 3: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a contractor in Ekaghund area of Mohmand Agency on Wednesday.

Sources said that the attackers riding two motorcycles opened fire on Bashir Khan, resident of Ghundai Kalli of Pandiali tehsil and escaped. He died on the spot. The political administration registered the case and started investigation.—Correspondent

CM not to draw salary

PESHAWAR, April 3: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Tariq Parvez Khan has decided not to take his monthly salary and allowances as caretaker chief minister of the province in the best national interest.

In an official letter of the chief minister secretariat addressed to the chief secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the CM said he will not draw his monthly salary and allowances during his tenure as chief minister, according to a handout issued here on Wednesday.

The CM soon after taking charge of his office as caretaker chief minister had issued directives to the concerned quarters to curtail the unnecessary expenditure of the CM secretariat and his official residence. These directives were given with an intention to promote the culture of austerity in the public offices.—Bureau Report

ECP code of conduct

KARAK, March 3: Karak deputy commissioner Ali Anan Qamar has directed all government servants to refrain from taking part in political activities and follow the Election Commission of Pakistan’s code of conduct.

In a circular issued here on Wednesday, the deputy commissioner directed the government officials to refrain from the election campaign of candidates and abide by the code of conduct of the ECP to ensure free and fair voting in the district. Meanwhile, the district administration expedited its drive against election material displayed by the candidates.

Meanwhile, DIG (operations), Kohat range, Mohammad Azad Khan said provision of security to lives and properties of the masses was the prime responsibility of police and asked the police officers to root out crimes from the society.—Correspondent
