LAHORE, Dec 18: The Cantonment Division Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff claims to have arrested a three-member inter-district gang involved in car theft, and recovered 27 vehicles worth Rs15 million from them.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Lahore CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen directed DIG (Investigation) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmad to arrest criminals involved in robberies and car theft. The DIG constituted special police teams of the CIA and AVLS to arrest the culprits.

A team under the supervision of the AVLS Saddar Division DSP arrested ringleader of the ‘Bhai Car Thief Gang’, Fazlur Rehman alias Bhai and his two accomplices, Amjad Ali and Muhammad Aamir. The accused used to lift vehicles from outside markets, houses and shopping centres.

During investigation, the accused confessed to committing 35 car robberies in Wahdat Colony, Iqbal Town, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Sandha, Samanabad, Nawab Town and Nawankot in Lahore, and People’s Colony, Civil Lines, Rail Bazaar and City Samundri in Faisalabad.
