Masses’ problems unresolved

KARAK, Dec 2: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leader Maj (retd) Masood Sharif Khattak has said that the federal and all provincial governments have miserably failed to address the problems of the people.

Speaking at a public meeting here on Sunday, he said that all the major issues facing the people remained unresolved during the past four and a half years.

He said that unemployment was rampant in the country and the number of unemployed educated youths was increasing day by day which was resulting in extremism in the society. He said that the government had failed to take solid steps to create opportunities of employment in the country.

The PTI leader said that the uneducated elected representatives of the district were responsible for the backwardness of Karak.

He said that despite huge funds of oil and gas royalty no planning was made to alleviate the miseries of the people —Correspondent  

Teachers seek promotion

KARAK, Dec 2: The All Primary Teachers Association (APTA), Karak chapter, has demanded promotion of teachers on seniority basis.

The demand was made at a meeting of the primary schoolteachers held here on Sunday with its provincial chief organiser Hafiz Fazal Wahab in the chair. The meeting discussed an 11-point charter of demands to be presented to the provincial government for the promotion of teachers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wahab said that the provincial government should adopt the timescale formula, like the other provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, for the promotion of teachers to end frustration among them.

He demanded of the government to end the contract policy in education department and allocate 50 per cent quota to the primary schoolteachers for promotion to the posts of secondary school teachers (SSTs) and subject specialists.—Correspondent Man killed on road

LAKKI MARWAT, Dec 2: A man was killed and three others sustained injuries when a passenger bus collided with a truck coming from opposite direction here on Sunday.

The accident occurred near Manjiwala chowk on Indus Highway in the area limits of Lakki Marwat police station,” eyewitnesses and police said.  They said that the ill-fated bus was going to Peshawar from Karachi.

“As a result of collision the bus slipped off the highway and rammed into a roadside tree,” they maintained, saying cleaner of the bus identified as Amjad, resident of Peshawar, died instantly.

Three other passengers, including Abdul Rasool, resident of Shadad Kot, Yousaf, resident of Larkana and Nasir, resident of Karachi, were wounded and taken to hospital. Police registered a case and started investigation.—Correspondent

12 suspects arrested in Dera

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 2: The district police continued raids on Sunday to track down the accused of bomb blasts on 9th and 10th of Muharram and arrested at least 12 suspects.

Officials said that the suspects were held during raids on the houses of alleged activists of banned outfits in the Dayal and Thoya Fazal areas of Dera Ismail Khan. The arrested men were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. At least 14 people had been killed and 145 injured in the two bomb explosions near mourners’ processions on the 9th and 10th of Muharram in Dera Ismail Khan.—Correspondent

Motorcyclist killed

CHARSADDA, Dec 2: A man was killed and three others were injured when two motorcycles collided head-on in the Tangi area here on Sunday.

The victim, Ibrar, was going on the motorcycle during the wedding procession of his relative when he met the accident. He died on the spot. Three other men were also injured in the incident. Meanwhile, a bridegroom died of cardiac arrest on the day of his marriage in the Umarzai area on Sunday.

Relatives said that the deceased, Refat Ali Khan, was busy in the arrangements of his marriage when he felt pain in chest and was taken to hospital, but he could not survive. They said that the food prepared for the wedding guests was distributed among the mourners.—Correspondent

Augmenting prosecution in KP

PESHAWAR, Dec 2: The home and tribal affairs department is taking all possible steps to augment the entire system of prosecution in the province.

This will help both the investigation and prosecution wings to work in a close coordination and friendly atmosphere to achieve increase in conviction ratio and decreasing commission of crime rate in the society, according to a press release issued here on Sunday. The principal purpose of investigation is to provide answers to certain questions relating to crime, including the identification of victim, exact place of occurrence, time of attack, motive and object behind the attack and identification of offenders.—APP
