LAHORE, Nov 10: A team of law-enforcement agencies captured three alleged terror suspects in a pre-dawn operation on Saturday in Alfalah Town near DHA and seized from them arms and ammunition and some security documents related to a top PPP politician.

Officials said security personnel initially faced some resistance from the suspects as both sides traded gunfire, but the suspects surrendered following negotiations.

The raid was conducted around 2:30am when a large number of personnel cordoned off the house. The firing from both sides lasted 10 minuets which damaged a vehicle and, of course, the house.

Four women and three children, said to be family members of the suspects, were also taken into custody by the raiding personnel.

An informed source told Dawn that personnel from army, ISI, rangers and elite police took part in the operation after the country’s prime intelligence agency received a tip-off about the presence of some terror suspects in a rented house in G-Block for the last six months.

He said the suspects were Pakistanis and apparently acted as facilitators for terrorists.

He further said the personnel seized a list of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s security protocol.

The source said all the suspects and their family members had been shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.

He said the house was owned by a woman who lived abroad. Police arrested her father Nazir who looked after the property in her absence. According to a TV channel, a property dealer who helped the suspects get the house on rent was also arrested The source said the detailed interrogation would reveal the suspects’ involvement in terror attacks in Lahore and other districts of Punjab.

However, a local news channel reported that the suspects had been found involved in a terror attack on the hostel of trainee jail warders from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa in Rasool Park, Ichhra, in July last.
