SWABI, Nov 5: A man was gunned down by rivals in Shagai village here on Monday.

Local police said efforts were underway to arrest the killers of Sher Zamin.

Hussain Bacha, brother of the deceased, said his brother had heated exchanges with Mehar Khan, Manzoor Khan and Naveed Khan over a petty issue of late. He said the three fired gunshots at his brother when he was returning home from the fields and that he died of critical injuries before reaching the hospital.

Police said the attackers had gone into hiding but raids were being conducted at different places for their arrest.

CAMPAIGN AGAINST ANTI-SOCIAL ELEMENTS: DPO Abdul Rashid on Monday urged the people to cooperate with police for crime control in Swabi. He said crackdown on anti-social elements would continue in the district.

The DPO was speaking during a meeting, which was attended by DSP, Chota Lahor Izhar Khan, DSP, Swabi Salim Dad Khan, DSP, Topi Aslam Nawaz and DSP, Razaar Pervez Khan and all local station house officers. The participants said they were committed to eradicating criminals in their respective areas and would continue taking extraordinary steps for it.

They said if the people cooperated with police, the crime rate could drop tangibly.

The DPO said police would continue doing their duty for the protection of public life and property. The meeting was briefed that during the last four weeks 138 criminals had been arrested and 13 Kalashnikovs, six rifles, 45 shotguns, 331 pistols, 318kg charas,  30kg heroin and 108 bottles of liquor were recovered.— Correspondent
