RAWALPINDI, Nov 4: A young man was allegedly shot dead by his father over a petty issue here on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred at the Dhoke Matkial locality in the limits of the Ratta police. The deceased was identified as Omar Farooq, 19.

Rehmania Bibi, the mother of the deceased, in her statement to the police said she married Gul Zada Khan about 20 years back and had three sons and two daughters.

On Sunday morning, she added, someone rang the doorbell of their house. Her younger son, Ayub Khan, went out and found a man inquiring about his father.

When Ayub came back and told his father that someone wanted to see him outside, he went out but found no one. This infuriated Khan who came back and started abusing all his sons.

However, his elder son Omer Farooq tried to calm down his father, saying it was not a big issue. At this, Khan went upstairs and came back with a 12-bore pistol and shot Farooq.

Police said the accused escaped from the house after the incident.
