QUETTA, Oct 25: Gunmen shot dead two people, one in Khuzdar and the other in Turbat, on Thursday as incidents of target killing continued across the province, belying the provincial government’s claims about improvements in law and order under situation.

Two armed men on a motorbike opened fire on a car on Eidgah road in Khuzdar, killing Siraj Ahmed and injuring his brother Manzoor Ahmed.

Both are sons of Nadeem Garganari, president of the Khuzdar Press Club.

Manzoor was admitted to a local hospital.

On Sept 29, gunmen had killed Abdul Haq Baloch, general secretary of the Khuzdar Press Club.

Journalists in Khuzdar shut the local press club in protest against incidents of violence against their community.

In another incident, gunmen killed one Nawaz in Turbat and escaped.

The Balochistan Union of Journalists and Council of All-Balochistan Press Clubs in separate statements condemned the Khuzdar shooting.

The statements severely criticised the government’s failure to protect journalists and their families. They said that journalists in Khuzdar had been left at the mercy of criminals.

They demanded immediate arrest of the killers and payment of adequate compensation to families of the deceased.
