KARACHI, Oct 24: Another policeman was found shot dead in Lyari on Wednesday only a day after a constable posted in the special branch of police was gunned down in the area, officials said.

The two murders on consecutive days brought the number of policemen killed in the city during the current year to 70.

Resident of Ghulam Shah Lane, Lyari, 40-year-old wireless operator of the Kalri police station Mohammad Zaheer was kidnapped before being shot dead, said Kalakot SHO Javed Baloch.

The SHO said that Zaheer had left home for work on Tuesday evening but did not reach the Kalri police station. In the early hours of Wednesday, he was found shot dead in the Lea Market area.

The victim was shot twice in the head, the police said, adding that his body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was father of three, the police said.

They suspected involvement of gangsters in the murder, observing that he had served at different police stations in Lyari before being posted at the Kalri police station four months ago.

Two stabbed to death

A teenage boy was stabbed to death in Machhar Colony, police said.

They added Yousaf aka Bengali was stabbed to death near Taj Chowk within the remit of the Docks police station.

He had been told to leave the house by his father who was angry at his drug addiction, said SHO Madad Ali Zardari, adding that since then he used to hang out at a nearby fish market.

An FIR (252/2012) was later registered at the Docks police station against unidentified persons on a complaint of the victim’s father.

In DHA, a 40-year-old man was stabbed to death near a roadside eatery, police said.

They added that the body of Farooq Sadiq, a resident of Noor Mehal Shoe Market, Garden, was spotted near Quetta Darbar Hotel from Tauheed Commercial.

SHO Agha Shamshad said the victim hailed from Faisalabad.

His family, who were in Punjab, could not be contacted. Following the medico-legal formalities, the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue.

Man killed

A man was gunned down in Keamari over a monetary dispute, police said.

They added that Ashiq Hussain and his friend were having tea at a roadside tea stall near Nageena Centre within the remit of the Jackson police station when two men approached him. After a brief chat, they became involved in an altercation, the police said. Suddenly, one of them took out a pistol, fired multiple shots at him and fled, the officials said, adding that the victim’s friend also escaped following the shooting.

The victim, who hailed from Gilgit, died before he could be rushed to hospital, said SHO Fareed Bhatti.

He said the victim worked at a private hospital as a technician and was a resident of the Jungle Shah area.

‘Robbers’ kill man

An employee of a bottled water company was killed for resisting a robbery attempt in SITE, the area police said, while claiming to have arrested one of the ‘robbers’ after a brief chase near Metroville Chowrangi.

Amir Haroon, 30, was shot dead when he resisted the mugging attempt, said an official at the Site-A police station. He added that a police patrol chased the robbers and arrested one of them, later identified as Adeel Khan. The police claimed to have seized a TT pistol, two cell phones and two wallets found in his possession. However, the robber’s accomplice managed to escape.

The police later shifted the victim’s body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Body found

A bullet-riddled body was found in a storm drain in Manghopir, police said.

They added that the victim wearing shalwar kameez had been shot in the head, eye and chest.

Manghopir SHO Nasir Mehmood said the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities following which it was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
