ATTOCK, Oct 15: A complaint has been lodged with the Additional District & Session Judge (AD&SJ) against the Attock District Jail administration for alleged maltreatment of a prisoner, but the jail administration dismissed the allegation.

According to sources, Sardar Ghulam Baqir filed a complaint saying that his son, Sardar Taimoor, who was in the jail for a murder, was manhandled by the jail officials for refusing to give bribe. He said it was routine for prisoners to pay bakhshish to jail officials, who otherwise victimised and humiliated them. Taimoor was then detained in an isolated cell (Kasuri chaki), and prevented from meeting his father.

The court directed the district medical board for a detailed medical examination. It also directed the Punjab prisoners department to initiate a departmental inquiry and submit its report to the court at the earliest.

The superintendent of Attock District Jail, Ch Asghar Ali, upon contact, said cell phones had been recovered from three prisoners of the death cell including Taimoor. As a disciplinary action, they were detained in isolated cells and the complaint had been filed only to pressurise the administration in allowing the illegal practice.

The superintendent denied manhandling of the prisoner and allegations of bribe. He said the court order had been followed and the inquiry team had already submitted its report to the AD&SJ.
