Terror bid foiled
TAXILA, Oct 15: Taxila police on Monday averted a potential terrorist attack, when they intercepted a car full of explosives.
Sub divisional Police officer (SDPO) and DSP Raja Taifour Akhter said that a police party led by inspector Malik Mohammad Khan intercepted a car on Taxila-Haripur road and during search recovered 25 kilogram of explosives, 400 detonators and 800 metres of fuse safety wire.
While in another move, the DSP said that police foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of liquor from Rawalpindi to Haripur and arrested one liquor smuggler. He said that acting on a tip off, a police party intercepted a car and during search recovered over 1200 bottles of liquor. He said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to the smuggling of liquor. He was planning to sell it a night before Eid and make a huge profit. — Correspondent
Two killed on road
TAXILA, Oct 15: Dumper truck hit two friends riding on a motorcycle on GT road near Margalla hills on Monday killing them on the spot.
Police sources said that Naeem Jan and his friend Adil Gull were going towards Taxila on their motorcycle when the speeding dumper hit them. Later their bodies were handed over for burial after autopsy at Tehsil headquarters hospital (THQ). — Correspondent
Three injured in robbery
RAWALPINDI, Oct 15: A four-member gang of robbers escaped with the loot after injuring a policeman, a passer-by and a travel agency employee in Saddar.
The gang came to an air travel agency located at Punch House Saddar and held its manager Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and employees at gunpoint. The gunmen made off Saudi Riyals 1300 after beating and injuring manager Mujeeb-ur-Rehman before fleeing from the scene.
Constable Arslan Yousuf tried to intercept them but he was shot and injured by the fleeing robbers.Sub-inspector Shafqat Ali, returning from Katchury in his police van, sent injured constable Arslan sent to hospital in his police van, and himself tried to chase the robbers by taking lift from a motorcyclist.
But he had to give up the chase after gunmen opened fire on them. As a result of which the motorbike owner received bullet in his leg.
However, the gunman succeeded in disappearing in Dhoke Charaghdeen area. — Staff Reporter
‘Rioters’ get bail
ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: A division bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday granted bail to 52 suspects who were facing allegations of riots and arson during the protests against the anti-Islam film.
The Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) of Rawalpindi on September 22 had sent these suspects to Adiala jail.IHC division bench, comprising Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi and Justice Mohammad Azim Khan Afridi, accepted the bail pleas of 52 suspects against surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.
Around two dozen lawyers, appearing before the court, said the police had registered false cases against the suspects as they were not involved in the riot. According to the FIR registered in the Secretariat police station, the detained were among the 6,000 angry protestors who, armed with iron and wooden rods, had scuffled with the police deployed near the Convention Centre on September 21.—A Reporter
Polio vaccination
ATTOCK, Oct 15: The three-day anti-polio campaign which started on Monday would provide vaccination to almost 247,392 children in the district, the health department said.
The district coordination officer (DCO), Usman Ahmed Chaudhry, inaugurated the campaign by administering anti-polio drops to a child at the district headquarter hospital.—Correspondent
