Woman killed on road

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 14: A woman was killed and nine other persons were injured in a traffic accident at Mandra-Chakwal Road on Sunday evening, According to sources, a family from Wah Cantt city was travelling to Chakwal in a car when a Suzuki van (RIS-1021) hit them. As a result, Shaheed Masood died on the spot while her husband Masood and children Danial and Arfa were injured.

Nasir Mahmood,Yasir Mahmood, their mother Shafaat Sultana; Aroosa Shahid, Shahida Kausar and Sitara Kanwal travelling in the pickup were also injured. They were shifted to the rural health centre at Mandra. — Correspondent

Kidnappers arrested

CHAKWAL, Oct 14: The Lawa police in the Talagang tehsil claimed to have arrested four persons on the charge of kidnapping a man for ransom.

The kidnap victim was also recovered.

The police said the accused had kidnapped Deen Mahi and demanded Rs1,600,000 ransom for his release.

On a tip off, the police arrested the alleged kidnappers from Mianwali.

They were identified as Kalimud Din, Bakhtiaruddin, Balqain Khan and Saeed Khan. — Correspondent

Special persons in sports

RAWALPINDI, Oct 14: Boys with disabilities have been allowed to participate in the Punjab Sports Festival in order to give them an opportunity to display their talent.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Imdadullah Bosal on Sunday said special persons could enlist themselves in the festival offering sports in 22 disciplines.

Competitions in different sports are underway while many events concluded on Sunday after which awards and prizes were given to the winning teams and players.

Mr Bosal said girls could also apply for taking part in the events. — Our Reporter

Gas project inaugurated

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 14: Raja Jawaid Ashraf patron in chief of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Gujar Khan while inaugurating natural gas supply to Mohra Mando village, near Mandra on Sunday, said: “Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) believes in politics of serving the people by providing basic amenities at the doorstep of the people.”

Raja Jawaid Ashraf said that all the people have right to basic amenities, irrespective of their political affiliations.

He further said that after winning elections, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf devoted his energies in the area’s uplift.

The prime minister of Pakistan is trying his best to improve the situation in his constituency.

Meanwhile Farakh Iqbal, tehsil president of PPP Gujar Khan and other political workers expressed their gratitude for providing natural gas to the locality of more than 500 houses. Brig (retired) Muhammad Hassan, former MPA also spoke on the occasion. — Correspondent

Encroachers fined

RAWALPINDI, Oct 14: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has confiscated a large quantity of goods during a campaign against encroachments in different markets.

According to Shakeel Anwar Jappa, the additional executive cantonment officer of RCB, the clean-up operation against encroachments was underway.

He said RCB markets were regularly being visited by the staff concerned. Eight truckloads, including 25 hand-push carts, were confiscated during the last three days. He said 50 shopkeepers were also issued tickets on Peshawar Road while 15 milch animals were removed from the residential areas.

He said unwrapped tyres were also being confiscated from markets under a special campaign being run against dengue. — APP

Nine LHC benches

RAWALPINDI, Oct 14: Chief Justice Lahore High Court Umar Ata Bandial has constituted three division and six single benches for the Rawalpindi bench for the next week.

According to the schedule, the division bench No 1 will comprise Justice Imtaiz Ahmed and Justice Mohammad Farrukh Irfan Khan, bench No 2 will comprise Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Ali Baqar Najfi while the division bench No three will consist of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh.

The divisional benches will hear the murder cases and appeals of all kinds.

The six signal benches will comprise Justice Kh Imtaiz Ahmed, Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Mohammad Farrukh Irfan Khan, Justice Ali Baqar Najfi and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah. — APP
