Man murders sister, nephew

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 2: A man gunned down his sister and nephew over a petty dispute in Dhera Syedan village of Mandra police station, the police said.

Syed Zamin Abbas Shah opened fire on his sister and his nephew, Faisal Shah, over a domestic quarrel. Faisal died on the spot while the woman succumbed to bullet injuries on her way to the hospital. The bodies were shifted to THQ hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the killer surrendered himself to the police after committing the murders, and a case has been registered against him. — Correspondent

Pedestrian killed

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a dumper in the capital’s rural area here on Tuesday. Munir Masih, 53, suffered multiple injuries when a dumper hit him at Tarnol while he was crossing the road. He was shifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the scene. — Staff Reporter

Burglars strike

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: Burglars broke into a jewellery shop of Mohammad Qadeer at Bilal Town and made off with gold ornaments, cash, and mobile phones worth Rs1 million.

Similarly, burglars broke into a house in G-15/2 and looted cash, including foreign currency, prize bonds, gold ornaments and other valuables. — Staff Reporter

SSC exams commence today

RAWALPINDI, Oct 2: Supplementary examinations for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) are to commence from Wednesday (today).

Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, Dr Muhammad Ashraf, held a meeting with board officials to examine the measures taken for conducting the supplementary examination.

Special squads, comprising of principals and academicians, were also constituted to ensure transparency. A total of 49 centres (18 for girls, 22 for boys and nine mixed) have been set up for the 15,827 students registered for the papers. — Our Reporter

Special programme on Faiz

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: Parveen Shakir Trust is organising a special programme to illustrate Faiz Ahmad Faiz on stage “Faiz ki kahani – Kuch un ki kuch hamari zabani”.

Renowned TV and film star Qavi Khan will perform the role of Faiz. Rahat Multanikar, a singer, will also be part of this programme and will sing Faiz.

The programme will be presented in two parts. The first part will be devoted to the distribution of awards, whereas the second part will comprise of a theatrical performance to highlight Faiz and his poetry. The two-day programme will be held on October 6, 2012 at 03:30 pm and on October 7, 2012 at 05:00pm at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts Auditorium, Islamabad. — A Reporter

Sports festival

RAWALPINDI, Oct 2: Inter-district competitions of the Punjab Youth Sports Festival will commence on Friday.

This was announced in a meeting held at the commissioner’s office Rawalpindi presided over by Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal.

Divisional Sports Officer Manzar Shah, District Sports Officer Waheed Babar and other officials concerned were also present.

The commissioner directed the authorities to supervise the competitions at the district level to ensure the right talent makes it to the next stage and represents Rawalpindi division at Punjab level.

The festival includes 22 events including baseball, boxing, marathon, weight lifting and rugby.

The teams from press clubs, bar associations and other organisations are to register in the divisional sports office for badminton, table tennis and cricket by October 6. — Our Reporter

15 people injured in accident

ATTOCK, Oct 2: As many as 15 people were injured in a road accident near Choiee Bangla village on Attock-Basal Road on Monday evening.

A wagon was on its way to Basal from Attock when it overturned near Choiee Bangla village due to reckless driving of the driver.

As a result 15 passengers were injured.

On information, Rescue 1122 and local police rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the district headquarters hospital Attock.

Attock Saddar police have also registered a case against the unknown driver and conductor who escaped from the scene after the accident. — Correspondent
