KARACHI, Oct 1: Seven men, including a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and a police constable, were shot dead in the city on Monday, police said.

They said that Akhtar Hussain Shah, 40, was sitting at pan cabin in Hingorabad, an area in Lyari, within the remit of the Kalri police station when someone walked up to him and after a brief chat fired multiple shots at him and fled.

The victim suffered seven bullet wounds and died during treatment at the Civil Hospital, the police said.

Kalri SHO Khan Niazi said that the victim was a former in charge of a unit of the Agra Taj sector in the organisational structure of the MQM.

Quoting some witnesses, the police said that the assailant was accompanied by seven to eight other suspects, who were waiting on a neighbouring street on motorbikes.

The deceased was a resident of Hingorabad and had a pan cabin.

Labourer shot dead in Baldia A man was shot dead and his friend was wounded in a targeted attack in Baldia Town on Monday.

Police said that the incident took place in Baldia Town No 9 near Haqqani Masjid where Najeebullah, 45, and Hazrat Gul, 30, were heading for work to a garment factory when two gunmen riding on as many motorbikes intercepted them, fired shots and rode away.

They said that Najeebullah suffered two bullet wounds in the chest and died before he could be shifted to hospital. Hazrat Gul was seriously wounded in the firing and was taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Baldia Town SHO Zafar Iqbal said that the victim hailed from Swat while the wounded man was originally hailed from Bannu.

Quoting family members, the police said that the victim had some enmity in Swat and two years back, his nephew was also killed in the feud in Swat.

The victim was father of nine.

Man found shot dead in Sohrab Goth A man was found shot dead in Shorab Goth on Monday.

Police said that the incident took place in Chhota Gabol Goth where unknown men came to the house of Abdul Jalil, 45, and knocked at his door. He went out with the men and shortly after his body was found in a vacant plot not far from his home, the police said.

The victim had been shot in the chest and head.

Quoting some witnesses, the police said that two suspects who had come to the victim’s house were sporting beards and had long hairs.

The victim had two marriages and about a year back the father of his first wife had killed his second wife.

The police suspected that the father of his first wife and her brothers might have involved in the killing.

The victim had no child from his first wife.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Cattle trader shot dead A cattle trader was killed in Liauqatabad on Monday.

Police said that gunmen riding a motorbike and wearing helmets came to Liaquatabad No.9 where Mohammad Sabir, 55, was loading goats in a pickup truck and called him by his name. As he came closer to the assailants, they fired shots at him and fled.

The victim suffered three bullet wounds, including one in the head, and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

DSP Wajahat Husain said that the victim was a resident of Liaquatabad No.4 and father of three.

Initial investigations suggested that the victim had a monetary dispute ad he might have murdered over it.

Armed clash leaves one dead A man was killed and another was wounded when two groups said to be involved in extortion business clashed with each other in a mega residential complex in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday, police said.

They said that the incident took place in Rabia City where two men — Ashraf Khan, 47 and Sher Khan, 45 — were wounded and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Ashraf died during treatment.

The clash resulted in a complete closure of the shops and markets in and around Rabia City.

Sharea Faisal SHO Bashir Khan said that the clash took place between Bashar group and Shera group. The deceased was the leader of the Bashar group, while the police arrested the wounded in the hospital.

The police said that both the groups were associated with a political party and some weeks back developed a dispute over extortion following which they were working separately.

Constable, suspect killed in shootout A head constable and an unidentified man were killed in what police described as an encounter in Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police remit on Monday.

The incident took place near Kati Pahari where a police party had gone to carry out a raid against some drug peddlers.

However the suspects opened fire at the police and an encounter ensued. Head Constable Watan Zada suffered a fatal gunshot wound while a suspect was also killed, said Gulberg division SP Latif Siddiqui.

The head constable was posted at the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station. However, the police were not able to arrest any of the suspects.

The bodies of the policeman and the suspect were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Expectant mother killed An expectant mother was killed in her house in Landhi on Monday.

Police said that the incident took place in New Muzzafarabad Colony where Mukhtar allegedly killed his wife Nanzeen and fled.

They said that area people informed the police about the incident following which the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

A lady medico-legal officer told the police that the woman was seven-month pregnant and was apparently given some poisonous substance.

The victim’s husband was a factory worker.

The victim woman used to visit a woman in the neighbourhood after her husband went to work. However, on Monday the victim did not reach to her house and when she reached her home she found her dead.

The police said that the suspect was originally hailed from south Punjab.

Policeman wounded in attack A policeman and three passers-by were wounded when unknown gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on them in Kharadar on Monday night.

Police said that the gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at Constable Mohammad Babar, injuring him and three other passers-by.

“The police constable was the target of the attack. He was posted on intelligence duty in the Kalri police remit and was targeted while returning home in Kharadar,” said SSP-South Asif Ajaz Shaikh.

“He is undergoing surgery. We have found five spent bullet casings of 9mm pistol and four spent bullet casings of .30-bore pistol from the crime scene,” the SSP said.
