RAWALPINDI, Sept 30: Four persons, including a father and his two sons, were gunned down over a property dispute here on Sunday, police said.

Besides, the wife and a daughter of the deceased man were also critically injured.

Raheema Bibi and her 18-year-old daughter Rubina, who had been charged with the murder of their relative Zakir Mehmood in Dhoke Lulial Saturday night, sustained bullet injuries when Raheema’s husband Mushtaq Ahmed was gunned down by his rivals while going home after midnight.

It all started when Zakir’s sons Danyal, 23, and his brother Shehryar, 21, along with their mother and sister reached the house of Liaquat Mehmood, in Dhoke Lulial on Saturday night to settle the dispute of a house.

Liaquat complained to the Airport police that after reaching the house Raheema’s two sons - Danyal and Shehryar - opened fire on them, injuring Zakir along with a neighbour Pervez Ahmed and a passerby.

Zakir died while being shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital and the two other injured were stated to be in critical condition. The alleged killers escaped from the scene.

After midnight, when Raheema along with her husband, a daughter, two sons and a brother were going to Rawal Town in a car, they were reportedly intercepted by Raja Nasir, the brother-in-law of Zakir, and Syed Safeer Shah near Khokar Town.

Maqsood Ahmed, a police sub-inspector who is leading the murder investigation, said: “On seeing Raheema and her husband, Raja Nasir, who was carrying a pistol, and Syed Safeer armed with a Kalashnikov, sprayed bullets on them, killing Mushtaq on the spot and injuring his wife and daughter.”

Police said on Sunday noon the deceased’s family received a message from his rivals, who were also their relatives, that they wanted to resolve the dispute and hold the burial ceremony of Mushtaq and Zakir at the same place.

Following the discussion between the two families, the namaz-i-janaza of both the victims was held on Kuri Road at 3pm. Later, the participants dispersed peacefully though a large number of police personnel had been deployed there to avert any untoward incident.

However, on Sunday night, Mushtaq’s two sons - Danyal and Shehryar - were going towards their home when they were ambushed and killed allegedly by Raja Nasir.

Mehboob Ahmed, the SHO of Kural, told Dawn that Danyal and Shehryar were passing through the service road in Ghori Town when they were targeted.

“I cannot identify the killers unless someone from the victims’ family lodges a complaint with the police as it was a motivated double murder.”

The bodies of the two brothers were handed over to their family after postmortem on Sunday night.

The murder of four members of the family created panic and fear in Dhoke Lulial and Kural areas. However, no arrest has been made by the police.

Police guards were also deployed for the security of the two injured women who have been admitted to Pims.
