Teenager stabbed to death

ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: A teenager was killed over a petty issue while a woman died in a road accident, police said here on Tuesday.

Hashmat Haideri, a student of class 10, was stabbed to death by his neighbour, a first-year student, at Mohallah Chowk in Bari Imam.

The police said the victim and the killer scuffled over a petty issue twice, however, the dispute between them was settled by their elders. Later Hashmat was intercepted by D.A.K. when he and his friend were crossing his house.

Both quarreled again, and during the fight the accused brought a knife from his house and attacked him. Although the victim’s friend tried to settle the issue but Haideri was stabbed in the heart. The accused escaped from the scene. Hashmat was shifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After registration of the case the police arrested the accused, who, during interrogation, claimed that he had no intention to kill the victim. The police quoted the accused as saying that he attacked the victim just to scare him.

In another incident a woman was killed after being hit by a speeding bus on I.J. Principal Road. The victim suffered multiple injuries and later died in the hospital.—Staff Reporter

Boy killed in road accident

TAXILA, Aug 28: A boy was killed when a speeding bus of local defense organisation hit him in the limits of Wah Cantonment police station on Tuesday.

Police sources said that Noman Aziz, 14, a resident of Bajar village, was crossing road. After autopsy at THQ hospital Taxila, his body was handed over to his family for burial. Wah Cantonment police have registered a case and started investigation.—Correspondent

Dual carriageway

GUJAR KHAN, Aug 28: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has sanctioned a grant of Rs400 million to make Mandra-Chakwal road dual carriageway and work on it will start on September 6, PPP sources said.Patron-in-chief of PPP Gujar Khan, Raja Jawaid Ashraf said that the prime minister had taken special interest in linking GT road with Islamabad-Lahore motorway from Mandra by upgrading Mandra-Chakwal highway to dual carriageway. — Correspondent

Promoting sports

RAWALPINDI, Aug 28:  Sports competitions under Punjab Sports Festival were held on Tuesday on union council level with an aim to promote healthy activities and to eliminate extremism in the province.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Raja Hanif, while speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Liaquat Sports Complex said that promotion of sports was the best shield against extremism in society besides purging the country of crimes.

The sports events would be held across the province from union council to divisional level and the winning teams would be awarded prizes by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.On Tuesday, competitions among teams of volleyball, cricket, kabadi and tennis took place in different union councils of Potahar Town and the winning teams were selected to play against Rawal Town tehsil. Officials of district administration were also present on the occasion and distributed prizes among the winning teams. — Our Reporter

Special adviser to IWCCI

ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: The Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) has appointed famous business leader of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad Malik Sohail Hussain as its special adviser.

According to a statement of the IWCCI issued here on Tuesday said that, a meeting of executive council of IWCCI was held here with the founder president of the Chamber Samina Fazil in the chair.

The meeting unanimously decided to appoint Malik Sohail Hussain as special adviser to the chamber. — APP
