Man, two sisters shot dead

NOWSHERA, Sept 24: A man and his two sisters were shot dead allegedly by their stepbrother over a domestic issue at Akbarpura here on Monday.

Police said the accused, Yousuf, opened indiscriminate fire on his two stepsisters Nusrat Khan (30) and Sakeena Khan (22), killing them on the spot, and seriously injuring his stepbrother Anwar Khan. The injured was taken to Mian Rashid Shaheed Memorial Hospital where he also succumbed to his injuries.

Haji Musharraf Khan, father of Anwar Khan, while lodging FIR in the Akbarpura police station, said that Anwar had married a widow, Yousaf’s mother, after death of his wife. He said that Yousaf also grew up in his house. He said Yousaf got infuriated over a domestic issue and started indiscriminate fire on his stepbrother and sisters and escaped.—Correspondent

Power supply to villages cut

KOHAT, Sept 24: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has again stopped electricity supply to ten villages and three camps of Afghan refugees due to non-payment of outstanding dues.

The Pesco had suspended power supply to the areas on the directives of executive engineer, Kohat, a month ago, but it was restored after negotiations with the consumers.The Afghan refugees, who had to fetch water from far flung areas, demanded of the Pesco to take action against its contractor nominated for receiving monthly bills, because they had been regularly making payments to the contractor.

Meanwhile, body of a drug addict was found in Lachi town on Monday. The Lachi police handed over the body to the relatives after legal formalities.—Correspondent

Students stage demo

KOHAT, Sept 24: Students boycotted their classes on Monday to condemn the production of blasphemous film by wearing black bands on their shoulders.The students and staff of the Iqraa Public School and College staged a protest inside the premises the whole day to express their love for their prophet.

The Jamaat-i-Islami, Chorlakki also took out a rally in protest against the film and raised slogans against the US and the filmmaker.—Correspondent

Call for peaceful protest

SWABI, Sept 24: Leaders of various welfare bodies on Monday vowed to remain peaceful while holding protests against the anti-Islam film to register their strong resentment.A meeting of the welfare bodies was held in Samajee Behbood Rabita Council office. Mohammad Quraysh Khan presided over the meeting attended by leaders of about 60 welfare bodies.

The participants said the United Nations should make laws to prevent such incidents in future.

They demanded punishment to the hate filmmaker, saying such incidents should be avoided in future as they caused discord among followers of different religions.

They said one should avoid attempting to harm religious sentiments of others and learn to respect each other’s faiths.—Correspondent

Operation against outlaws

LAKKI MARWAT, Sept 24: Police claimed on Monday to have arrested six notorious outlaws and 11 suspects during an operation against anti-social elements in last three days.

An official said the arrests were made during surprise raids at the hideouts of criminals in Tarikhel, Mastikhel, Azadkhel, Ghaznikhel, Gulzar Faqeer and other areas. He said the arrested proclaimed offenders were wanted in murder, attempted murder and other cases of heinous nature.

The official said the campaign against outlaws and drug traffickers had been intensified on the directives of DPO Mohammad Idrees Khan. “SDPO Naurang circle Sanaullah Khan led the operation in areas bordering the frontier tribal region,” maintained the official. He said the law enforcers seized five AK-47 assault rifles, five shotguns, six pistols, 260 bullets and a small quantity of hashish and heroin from anti-social elements.—Correspondent

‘Corruption plagues every dept’

KARAK, Sep 24: Former provincial minister and PML-N leader Fareed Tofan has alleged the incumbent rulers have crossed all limits of corruption.

Speaking at a public meeting at Tarkikhel here on Monday, he said everything was on sale in the province. He said jobs were given only to the blue-eyed people while the educated youth remained deprived.

He alleged the elected representatives and officials of government departments, including public health engineering, tehsil municipal administrations and communication and works department, were equally responsible for the corruption in the royalty funds.

The PML-N leader said people would not allow the ANP government to establish university in Karak with oil and gas royalty and questioned whether the universities in Mardan and Charsadda and other districts were established with the revenue of those districts. He demanded provision of natural gas to every nook and corner of the district.—Correspondent

Jirga visits torched church

MARDAN, Sept 24: A delegation of different political parities and civil society organisations on Monday paid a visit to the church torched by mobsters in Friday riots to condemn the incident and express solidarity with the Christian community.

The delegation included Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aman Jirga president Syed Kamal Shah advocate, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leader Mohammad Riaz Paiendakheil, former deputy attorney general KP Khursheed Khan, former provincial minister Abdus Subhan Khan, political workers and civil society members.

Syed Kamal Shah said following the Pakhtun’s tradition; the delegation had visited the church as a jirga to express their sympathies with the local Christian community as well as to condemn the attack.

The vice president of Sarhadi Lutheran Church, Andaryas, Bishop Peter Majeed, priests Gulam Shaad and Chand along with other members of Christian community thanked the delegation over their visit. They said Christian community was deeply shocked over the blasphemous film.—Correspondent

Memo assails anti-Islam film

PESHAWAR, Sept 24: A delegation of Markazi Tanzeem Tajiran Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presented a memorandum to the US Consul General in Peshawar Robert Reed on Monday to register their protest against the anti-Islam film.

The delegation led by its president Sharafat Ali Mubarik included Waris Khan Afridi, Arshad Siddiqui and Mohammad Naeem. They went to the US consulate and presented the memorandum to the US diplomat over production of the hate film.

The traders’ representatives said the hate mongers were out to spoil religious harmony and peace in the world and spread hatred against Islam. They also expressed sorrow over the rioting in Peshawar and destruction of properties during the anti-film protests.—Bureau Report
