Four shot dead in Charsadda

CHARSADDA, Sept 23: Four persons were shot dead in different incidents here on Sunday.

A man and his wife were killed and their son was injured when gunmen opened fire on them during a robbery attempt in Batgram area in Shabqadar tehsil in the small hours of Sunday.

Locals said the gunmen entered the house of Malik Said Badshah in Bero Kali area and made the family hostage. On resistance, the gunmen killed Said Badshah and his wife and injured his son, Sher Jan.

In the second incident, a man was killed and two others were seriously injured when unidentified men hurled a grenade at them on Michni Road in Shabqadar. The victim was identified as Ayub, a local trader. The injured included Khyal Bacha and Fawad. They were taken to hospital.

On the other hand, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead an official of the anti-corruption department in Umarzai area. The victim was identified as Irfan. — Correspondent

Arson attacks condemned

BATKHELA, Sept 23: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Engr Mohammad Humayun Khan has deplored the destruction of public and private property during riots against the anti-Islam film.

He was addressing PPP workers during a function at Dheri Jolagram in Malakand district here on Sunday. On this occasion, elders of the area, including Ali Gul, Said Rehman, Samin Khan, Imran, Fazal Rahim, Amir Mohammad, Fayyaz, Adnan and Azam Khan announced joining the PPP along with their families.

The minister urged the party workers to convey PPP’s message of peace and reconciliation to every nook and corner of the Malakand district.

He assured the people that the PPP would continue to work to resolve all genuine problems of the people on priority basis. — Correspondent

‘Misuse’ of oil, gas royalty

KARAK, Sept 23: The Pakistan Mazdoor Kisan Party (PMKP), Karak chapter, will move court against the ‘wastage’ of hefty funds of oil and gas royalty.

Speaking at a meeting of the party here on Sunday, PMKP provincial president Qadir Sherin advocate said the party had launched a movement ‘Orbal Tehrik’ to ensure equitable distribution of royalty funds in the district. He said the party would soon move a court to probe the utilisation of royalty funds on petty projects.

The meeting was also attended by PMKP district president Altaf Ahmad, general secretary Tariq Usman and Orbal Tehrik president Shad Mohammad Olasyar.

Sherin Qadir said the Orbal Tehrik would work at the district level to create awareness among the people about their legal and constitutional rights.

He said the Tehrik would also raise awareness about the just distribution and utilisation of oil and gas royalty funds on public welfare projects. — Correspondent

Call for hanging hate filmmaker

PESHAWAR, Sept 23: PML-Q provincial president Syed Qasim Shah has said the US should proceed against the makers of the sacrilegious film, which had hurt religious sentiments of the Muslims throughout the world.

He was speaking at a party function held at Phandu area on Sunday to welcome new entrants to PML-Q. A large number of villagers announced joining the party on this occasion.

The PML-Q leader said the US government should take action against the makers of the film. He said the UN charter also stated that disrespect to any prophet or religion was a criminal offence. He said the director and producers of the film should be publicly hanged.

PML-Q provincial general secretary Intikhab Khan Chamkani said the anti-Islam film was a deliberate act to hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslims and to create disharmony in the world. He said the Muslims could never tolerate disrespect to their prophet. — Bureau Report
