LAHORE, Sept 6: A judicial magistrate on Thursday remanded two sub-inspectors of investigation wing, who are involved in extending illegal favour to four murder accused.

Nawab Town police investigation in-charge Muhammad Arshad and investigation officer Zafar changed the place of occurrence of Qasim Ali’s murder from Lahore to Islamabad. They produced initial investigation report before the trial court, saying the accused were in Lahore at the time of the incident. Resultantly, the trial court had granted bail to the accused.

On an application filed by the complainant, DIG Investigation Chaudhry Shafiq took notice of the malpractice and got both police officials arrested following a case against them.

The Civil Lines police produced both policemen before the magistrate and obtained one-day physical remand for interrogation.

SI suspended: DIG (Investigation) Chaudhry Shafique has suspended from service Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ashraf of Barki police station for keeping a citizen in illegal custody.

He also directed SSP (Investigation) Babar Bakht Qureshi to launch departmental proceedings against the responsible police officer.

Ali Akbar in an application to the DIG had alleged that Ashraf released him after taking a bribe of Rs35,000.
