Four killed in road accident

BUNER, Sept 3: Four people were killed and 18 others received injuries when a pickup van going from Shangla to Buner district fell into a deep ravine near Aligay Miragai here on Monday.

The pickup was carrying passengers from Alpuri Shangla to Swari in Buner district when the driver lost control over the vehicle at a sharp curve near Aligay Miragai and plunged into a ravine. As a result, four passengers were killed and 18 others suffered injuries. All the passengers belonged to Shangla district.

A case was registered in police station Marthong in Shangla district, said officials of the Gulbandi police station of Buner.—Correspondent

Two shot dead

CHARSADDA, Sept 3: Two people were killed in different incidents here on Monday.

In the first incident, Shakirulla, son of Mohibullah of Pordal Malak village, was gunned down by his rivals.

Rziwanullah, uncle of the deceased, reported to Tangi police that he along with his nephew, Shakirullah, was on way home when accused Ikramullah, Zakirullah and Daud, opened fire on them. He said Shakirullah was killed on the spot while he survived in the ambush. The motive behind the attack was stated to be an old enmity over a piece of land.

In the second incident, Tehsinullah, Asfandyar and Wajid opened indiscriminate fire on a trader, Akhtar Ali Khan, son of Mirza Ihsanullah, when he was sitting at his shop at Shabqadar bazaar. He died on the spot. The Shabqadar police registered case and started investigation.—Correspondent

Teachers appointed

GHALANAI, Sept 3: The Mohmand Agency education department issued appointment orders of 64 community teachers here on Monday, officials said.

Assistant agency education officer Dost Ali Khan told Dawn that education department had issued orders of 52 male and 12 female teachers in all the seven tehsils of the agency. He said all the appointments were made on merit.

It is to be recalled here that the government had set up 108 community schools in border and far flung areas of Mohmand Agency in 2003 as an incentive for tribesmen.

Meanwhile, a man and a woman were injured when a live electricity line fell on their house in Ghazi Kore area on Monday.

Locals said 11kv line fell on the house of Rehman Khan in village Sara Ghundi, seriously injuring Rehman and his wife. The injured were shifted to Peshawar.—Correspondent

Women get BISP cheques

BATKHELA, Sept 3: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Engineer Mohammad Humayun Khan distributed 150 cheques of Rs150,000 each as first installment among the deserving and jobless women of Swat, Buner, Dir and Malakand districts under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) here on Monday.

The minister while addressing the function to this effect said the programme had been named after a brave woman, late Benazir Bhutto, who tirelessly worked for the rights of womenfolk not only in Pakistan but the world over.

The minister stressed upon the women who received cheques not to waste the amount unnecessarily and start appropriate business to help stand on their feet and become useful citizen. He said it was an interest free soft loan and the second installment of Rs150,000 each would be given after ensuring that the first installment was spent purposefully.—Correspondent

Dispute claims life

LAKKI MARWAT, Sept 3: A man was killed over a domestic dispute in Shabazkhel village of Darra Pezu town the other day. Police said Rafiullah was sitting at a shop with his father when he was gunned down by Naseem Khan alias Gogo. The police said the families of the victim and accused had a dispute over women related issues. They said the killer escaped after the incident.

Meanwhile, the newly posted DPO Idrees Khan on Monday directed SHO of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station of Darra Pezu town Gul Rauf to report to the police lines, said an official, adding the action against him was taken on public complaints. Meanwhile, chairing a meeting DPO Idrees warned the SHOs and other subordinate police officials of strict disciplinary action for showing negligence in performing duties.—Correspondent

Prosecution system

PESHAWAR, Sept 3: The director general of prosecution Mohammad Arif Khattak has conducted surprise visits to the offices of district prosecutors at Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Karak and checked the staff’s performance.

According to a press release issued here, the director general has been conducting such visits to check the performance of staff and maintenance of record pertaining to the prosecution to fully implement the Prosecution Act 2005. Few weeks ago the provincial cabinet had taken decisions regarding reinforcement of prosecution on solid basis.

The director general met with prosecuting staff and briefed them about the urgency of conversion of prosecution system on modern scientific lines. He stated the implementation of the Prosecution Act 2005 in its true letter and spirit was vital to overcome all visible and invisible deficiencies and to remove bottlenecks in this regard.—Bureau Report

Power consumers hold demo

PESHAWAR, Sept 3: Power consumers on Monday blocked road at Gulbahar against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company for sending them inflated bills.

The protesters were also shouting slogans against the Pesco. They said the consumers of Mahalla Mohtasiban, Gari Khana and Gang had been handed over bills with additional charges despite there was no pending bill against them.

“Each consumer had got bills amounting from Rs9,000 to Rs131,000,” they said and added that they had time and again visited the office but concerned staff never paid them attention and forced them to stage protest. However, taking notice of the situation the concerned XEN negotiated with the consumers and assured them of solution to the problem. He assured that they would be sent rectified bills.—Bureau Report

PTI sets up relief camp

KHAR, Sept 3: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Bajaur Agency, set up a relief camp for the affected people of the conflict-hit areas of Salarzai tehsil at Ragan here on Monday.

Talking to journalists, PTI local leader Mambar Khan said the party had set up the relief camp to provide basic needs, including food, medicine, transport and shelter facilities, to the people who have been displaced from their homes due to fighting between the security forces and militants in Salarzai tehsil. He said a large number of tribesmen in the conflict zone had been internally displaced as they have migrated to parts of the region and were facing trouble due to lack of basic requirements.He criticized the government for not taking positive steps for the welfare of the war affected people and demanded of the government to establish relief camp for the internally displaced persons.—Correspondent
