MANSEHRA, Sept 3: Local police on Monday arrested four women for depriving women in Hazara division of gold ornaments after falsely promising to double them.

In charge of city police station Zulfiqar Khan told reporters here that the gang was busted after a woman charged them with depriving her of gold ornaments.

He said looted ornaments had been recovered from the arrested women, including Rukhsana, Sulma, Aasia, Shahbana and their driver Dilroz of Ghazi in Haripur district.

Police said they had booked the women for fraud and began investigation.

Meanwhile, provincial revenue minister Shujah Salim Khan on Monday urged the people in Hazara division to actively partake in the monsoon tree plantation drive launched by the government in the province.

“If we want to free environment from pollution, then we should make the tree plantation campaign in the province a success by maximum participation,” Mr Khan said at the launch of the drive in Shahallia area.The minister said massive cutting of trees caused heavy flooding in Hazara, especially in Mansehra, in 1992. He also said the Oct 8, 2005 devastating earthquake was a natural calamity but it caused huge damage to public life and property due to massive deforestation in Mansehra and other parts of Hazara.

Local officials of the forest department were also in attendance.—Correspondent
