Two gunned down

CHAKWAL, Aug 29: A young boy and a girl were gunned down in two separate incidents in the village of tehsil Kallar Kahar, police said on Wednesday.

Zamurad Hussain, 18, a resident of Gahi village was playing volleyball when he developed some dispute with the members of rival team on Tuesday.

The issue was temporarily resolved and the teams wound up play and left.

However, in the evening, five boys of the rival team, Sikandar, Tasadaq, Sammar, Shehzad and Imran, came with pistols and opened fire on Zamurad, killing him on the spot.

A young girl was shot dead in the same village by unknown killer(s). Her parents told police that they did not have any animosity with anyone. Sources in the village told Dawn that the girl was killed by her elders in the name of honour.— Correspondent

Man kills wife, daughter

GUJAR KHAN, Aug 29: A retired army man killed his wife and daughter over some land dispute in the village Bhence Ratial of Jatli police station on Tuesday night.

According to the police sources, Mohammad Yasin had strained relations with his wife Perveen Akhtar. On Tuesday night, when his wife Perveen, 42, and his daughter Andeela, 16, went to sleep he came with a shovel and started hitting them. Later he also fired shots at them.

Police shifted the bodies to the tehsil headquarters hospital Gujar Khan. The killer is reportedly on the run. — Correspondent

Couple dies in accident

ATTOCK, Aug 29:  A couple was killed and their daughter and driver were injured in a road accident near Sanjwal Chowk at Attock-Rawalpindi Roadon Wednesday.

According to police, Haji Saleemur Rehman, resident of Darul Salam colony Attock city, was on his way to Attock from Islamabad along with his wife and daughter after seeing off their daughter at airport.

On reaching near Sanjwal Chowk, his driver lost control over vehicle while trying to protect a motorcyclist, as a result of which the car overturned killing Mr Rehman and his wife on the spot while his daughter Nadia Bibi and driver Mohammad Abid sustained injuries.

The bodies and the injured were shifted to the DHQ Hospital Attock. — Correspondent

Manhole claims lives

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Two sisters were killed after they fell in a manhole, in capital’s rural area here on Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place at village Dhok Badu, where the two girls Rukhsana Latif 5, and Amna Latif 6, fell in the hole one after another, while playing outside their house.

Locals of the area spotted them and rushed to the spot and also informed the Kural police.

Later the bodies of the girls were retrieved and shifted to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The police said that the manhole was constructed by a housing society and without a cover.—Staff Reporter

Tubewell operator drowns

RAWALPINDI, Aug 29: A tubewell operator drowned after falling into well on Adiala Road on Wednesday, police said.Mohammad Aslam, 35, who worked as a machine operator, tried to drive a water tanker despite the fact that he did not know driving.

When he switched on the engine of the vehicle, it moved ahead and both Aslam and the tanker fell into the big well.

His body was fished out after efforts of more than four hours.—Staff Reporter

Man lobs bomb on shop

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 29: A man lobbed a locally-made explosive device on a general store in the town of Bagh on Wednesday allegedly for money but no one was injured, police and witnesses said.

Witnesses said the device exploded in the shop at about 8:15am causing damage to the structure and goods but fortunately the owner Khalid Abbasi remained unhurt.

The accused, later identified as Ghulam Rasool, resident of Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ran from the scene after committing the crime but around 200 residents overpowered him after a chase of nearly 3 kilometers, and handed him over to the police.

Police sources told Dawn that the accused had told them that he had done this act for money from a local resident, believed to be harbouring ill will against Mr Abbasi, the general store owner.

Police had also taken at least seven other persons into custody besides sealing 10 shops for investigations. —Staff Correspondent

Murder case solved

GUJAR KHAN, Aug 29: The police have solved the murder of a teenage boy who went missing from his home in village Bhuttian on May 23 and his body was later on recovered from a cave in the nearby jungle on May25.

According to the details, Rameez Hussain, 14, went out of his house at about 8am on May 23 but did not return.According to police, the elder brother of the victim had illicit relations with some woman of the village and the male members of her family had killed Rameez.

During interrogation, Tariq mahmood, Asim, Wajid, Shahid and Ismail confessed to sexually abusing the boy and later on killing him. — Correspondent

Cash, jewellery stolen

TAXILA, Aug 29: Thieves broke into a house and made away with cash, jewellery and other valuables in Taxila police area on Wednesday.

The incident took place when the family members had gone to meet their relatives.

Abdul Razzaq told the police that the thieves had gained entry into his house after breaking the lock.

Taxila police have registered a case and started investigation.— Correspondent

11 outlaws arrested

ATTOCK, Aug 29: Police have claimed that they have arrested 11 outlaws along with weapons and narcotics from different areas of the district during the routine checking.

The district police spokesman Javed Malik informed local mediamen on Wednesday that the police arrested Jabbar Khan Afghani, Ghulam Jillani, Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Anwar, Shamros, Mohammad Suleman, Islam Bahadur, Himmat Gull, Gulfam, Shaukat Mehmood  and  Mohammad Safdar and recovered 880 gram hashish, 20 gram heroin, four bottles of liquor, three pistols, a dragger and bullets. — Correspondent
