Three killed on road

TIMERGARA, Aug 26: Three people, including a woman and her eight-year-old child, were killed and two others injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck at Ashari Gat area on Sunday. The accident occurred in the jurisdiction of Timergara police station, police and residents told Dawn.

They said the family of Sadam Hussain, a resident of Manai Swat, was coming from Upper Dir to Swat. Their car was hit by a speeding truck coming from the opposite side at Ashari Gat area, killing driver of the car Hussain Ahmad, wife of Sadam Hussain and her daughter Kahina while two other inmates identified as Sadam Hussain and his brother Ayaz sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital Timergara where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The Timergara police registered case and started investigation. The driver of the truck escaped from the scene.—Correspondent

Protesters block road

KARAK, Aug 26: The residents of Alikhel and adjacent areas blocked Karak-Palosa Sar road at Alikhel Chowk on Sunday to protest against the non-provision of natural gas to the area.

The protesters gathered at Alikhel Chowk and marched to Ghundi Mir Khankhel village and returned to the venue, chanting slogans against the elected representatives for failing to ensure provision of gas to them.

The protesters criticised the provincial Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel for meting out discriminatory treatment to the area and claimed the gas had already been approved to Alikhel and adjacent areas but the minister was creating hurdles in this regard.

They also criticised use of substandard material in the construction of four kilometers road from Palosa Sar to Ghundi Mir Khan Khel and alleged the minister had awarded the contract to his supporter. They accused the communication and works department of overlooking the matter.—Correspondent  

KP assembly session

PESHAWAR, Aug 26: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly would mainly discuss the energy crisis in the province in its session commencing on Monday evening (today), according to officials.

The government would share the recommendations of the recently held energy moot with the lawmakers at the assembly floor, officials said. The recommendations would be sent to the federal government after thorough debate in the assembly, they added.

“The treasury benches are likely to pass a resolution in the light of the recommendations of the energy moot,” they further said.

Parliamentary leader of PPP Abdul Akbar Khan has also submitted an adjournment motion with the assembly secretariat for debate on the energy crisis.

The officials said a bill regarding Rescue 1122 would also be tabled on the assembly floor. It is the first session of the assembly after the budget session.—Bureau Report

Man hangs wife to death

PESHAWAR, Aug 26: A person allegedly hanged to death his wife over a minor dispute in the interior city here on Sunday.

Father of the woman, Fiaz Ahmed Awan, resident of Jamadaran Street, Hashtnagri, while registering FIR with the Kotwali police station, charged his son-in-law, Shabir Ahmed Awan, with killing his wife. The complainant told police that his son-in-law had hanged his wife, Ms Sehresh, with the ceiling fan. According to police there were differences between the couple on some minor issues. Police also arrested the alleged killer on the spot.—Bureau Report

Man dies of electric shock

LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 26: A man working at a filling station in Malang Adda area died after he received electric shock on Sunday.

The victim, Habibullah, 35, received electric shock while filling the fuel tank of a vehicle when another worker at the filling station pressed the power button to run the fuel dispensing pump. The man became unconscious and was hurried to a hospital in Naurang town in a bid to save him. But he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Later his body was taken to his native village Kotka Gul Akhtar in Bakhmal Ahmadzai union council.—Correspondent

Rains cause havoc in Lachi

KOHAT, Aug 26: Rains and storms played havoc with the kachi abadis in Lachi area of Kohat district on Sunday.

At least three people were injured and roof and boundary walls of dozens of houses collapsed when water entered the residences of the poor people.

The affected people have demanded of the government to help in their rehabilitation and reconstruction of the damaged houses.

The people of Zargari area of Hangu have also appealed to the government to give compensation to them for rebuilding of their houses.—Correspondent
