KARACHI, Aug 26: Around 54 suspects were rounded up by the Rangers in what was described as a ‘targeted operation’ in different parts of Lyari early on Sunday.

A handout issued by the paramilitary force said that the Rangers launched a “targeted operation” amid at “target killers, extortionists and other criminal and anti-state elements in different parts of Lyari”.

The areas where the operation was conducted included Afshani Gali, Nawa Lane, Tannery Road, Niazi Chowk, Aath Chowk and Cheel Chowk, the press release added.

During the operation 54 suspects were rounded up and a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 assault rifles, 12 bore rifles, pistols, grenades, improvised explosive devices and five kilo of explosion material were seized.

The targeted operation triggered a protest on Sunday on Hub River Road.
