Old feud claims two lives

NOWSHERA, Aug 25: Two people were killed over an old enmity between two groups at Sawar Khel village in Ziarat Kaka Sahib area here on Saturday.

Nowshera Kalan police said that Bakht Zada alias Khane from one group and Razi Khan alias Toray from the other group were killed.

Nowshera Kalan police registered cases against five accused and started investigation.

Meanwhile, customs’ intelligence squad on Saturday foiled an attempt of smuggling a huge quantity of hashish to Punjab from the tribal area and arrested two accused.

Officials said that the customs squad on a tip-off stopped an oil tanker (FDF-3934) near Rashakai Interchange and on checking recovered 1,300kg hashish from its hidden cavities and arrested the two accused. They were identified as Khan Shah and Kashmir Khan. —Correspondent

Villagers quit PTI

KOHAT, Aug 25: Hundreds of people of several villages on Saturday quit Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf and joined PML-N at a function here.

They said Imran Khan was immature leader and was incapable of solving the political and economic problems. Moreover, he was surrounded by turncoats, who had already been tried by the masses and failed to come up to their expectations, they said.

The people of Nakband and other areas came to the residence of provincial leader of PML-N Eng Malik Asad and announced their joining and expressed satisfaction over the leadership of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

The people were led by Malik Khawaja and Malik Taj Khan. The district president of PML-N Sher Khan Bangash, Pir Imran and others were also present. —Correspondent

Man shot dead

SWABI, Aug 25: An exchange of hot words led to a clash between two farmers on Saturday and opening of fire which culminated in the killing of one of them, said police.

The incident happened in the jurisdiction of Zaida police station.  Registering FIR, wife of the deceased, Mohammad Amin, said Hamid Ali of Nabi village opened fire over her husband, who was working in his fields in the vicinity of Zaida city, after exchanging hot words with the victim over a trivial issue. Mr Amin was seriously injured and died while being taken to hospital.Police said the accused had gone under ground after committing the crime. —Correspondent

Two women killed

PESHAWAR, Aug 25: Two women were killed in separate incidents here on Saturday.

Qazi Ihtesham-ul-Haq, son of Qazi Nizam-ul-Haq, told Tehkal police two armed men entered his house and opened indiscriminate fire on inmates. He identified the accused as residents of Yar Hussain Swabi. He said three months ago his brother had a love marriage with daughter of one of the accused, which could be the cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, police said a young woman, Sajida, committed suicide by shooting herself in the head with a pistol at Badbher village. The woman’s husband, Farhad, told police he also had another wife and both used to quarrel. He added he had gone to offer Umra and during his absence his second wife went to her father’s home. He said he did not know as to why she committed suicide. Police said Farhad had married her one and a half year ago. —Bureau Report

Six in run for Bannu by-poll

BANNU, Aug 25: Six candidates are in the run for the by-poll on PK-70, Bannu, to be held on August 28.

The seat had fallen vacant on the death of JUI-F MPA Ziad Akram Durrani, son of former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani.

Among the candidates, only Irfan Durrani is fielded by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F, while the rest are contesting the by-election as independent candidates. They include Saadullah Khan, Zafar Ali Khan, Rehmatullah Kaka Jan, Malik Ashfaq and Sadiq Rehman.

According to election commission sources, the total number of voters in PK-70 is 190,883. Among them, 90,550 are women voters. A total 102 polling stations have been set up for the by-election. —Correspondent

Two die in house collapse

KOHAT, Aug 25: A woman and her son were buried alive when the roof of their mud house caved in due to torrential rain in Zargari area of Hangu on Saturday.

Official sources confirmed that the heavy rain which lashed parts of Kohat, Hangu and Orakzai Agency damaged several mud houses and killed two people.

The victims included 30 years old Fatima Bibi and her ten years old son Mohib whose bodies were pulled out from the debris by the volunteers, sources told Dawn on telephone from the remote locality of Zargari, officials said.

The bodies were shifted to Hangu civil hospital from where they were handed over to relatives.

Locals said the damage to kacha area of Zargari and other parts could not be assessed due to darkness. They said there was danger of more damage as rain had again started in Hangu on Saturday night. —Correspondent

Two women shot dead

MARDAN, Aug 25: Two women were killed in separate incidents here on Saturday.

Locals and police said body of a woman was recovered from a nullah in Malandary village of Rustam. The victim was mother of five children. She was allegedly killed in the name of honour.

The body of the slain woman was shifted first to the district headquarters hospital Mardan and then to the Mardan Medical Complex by her relatives but there was no female doctor to carry out the autopsy. Later, the relatives placed the body on the road outside MMC to protest against the non-availability of doctor.

The Rustam police registered FIR against the alleged killers.

In the other incident, a woman was killed allegedly by her son and grandson over a domestic issue in Palodhery locality of Katlang tehsil. The alleged killers were identified as Mohammad Sher and his son Shah Khalid and the victim as Ms Gul Toru. —Correspondent

Eid package distributed

BUNER, Aug 25: The Al-Khidmat Foundation, Gadezai chapter, has claimed distributing 300 Eid packages among deserving families to enable them to participate in the festivities.

Addressing a press conference at the Daggar Press Club on Saturday, the foundation’s Gadezai general secretary Ameenur Rashid and president Syed Bacha told media men that Eid packages worth Rs300,000 were distributed among the  destitute families.

Ameeur Rashid claimed the entire amount was donated by well off families of the tehsil on the request of the organisation. He said the Al-Khidmat Foundation was endeavouring to eliminate poverty by helping the poor people. He said the foundation was focusing on education, health, skill development, agriculture and launching businesses on small scale. —Correspondent
