Man, two sons shot dead

MARDAN, Aug 17: A man and his two sons were killed allegedly by their opponents in Shahbaz Garhi area on Friday, police said.

The preliminary investigations carried out by officials of the Shahbaz Gari police station revealed that the accused identified as Abbas, Jangrez, Javed, Nizar and Syed Nawab shot dead Mashall and his sons Jamroz and Shah Faisal in Tootkly Chowk when they were going to one of their relatives’ home.

The alleged killers, who were said to be cousins of the slain persons, fled the scene after committing the crime. Cause of the incident was stated to be an old enmity between both the groups.

Farah Naz, wife of the slain Jamroz, lodged FIR in the Shahbaz Gari police station against the accused. The police were conducting raids on the hideouts of accused to arrest them. —Correspondent

Jumatul Wida observed

PESHAWAR, Aug 17: Jumatul Wida was observed with religious fervour under tight security arrangements across the provincial metropolis on Friday.

Police personnel were deployed along the worship places both in the city and cantonment areas to avert any untoward incident.

The police also continued body search of the people entering the mosques. In the cantonment area some roads were closed for vehicular traffic during the prayer times to ensure foolproof security.

During their sermons the ulema exhorted the people to avoid firing in the air on Chaand Raat or on Eid days and extend financial help to their neighbours and poor relatives so that they could also celebrate the festivities. —Bureau Report

Two killed on road

BUNER, Aug 17: Two people were killed and eight others suffered injuries when a Swat-bound passenger coach collided with a car in Daggar here on Friday.

The victims, including coach helper Chaman Gul, 12, and Jamat Shah, 48, died on the spot. The vehicles collided near the DHQ hospital. The coach was going from Swari to Mingora, while a minority family was travelling in the car.

The dead and injured were shifted to DHQ hospital Daggar. Driver of the coach Zamin escaped the area after the accident, police said. —Correspondent

Exams schedule announced

TIMERGARA, Aug 17: The University of Malakand on Friday announced schedule of the annual examination of various departments. The examinations would commence from September 4.

According to a notification issued by the controller of examinations Mohammad Shahid Khan, annual examinations of B.Ed, M.Ed, B.Com, M.Com and LLB, 2012, would commence from September 4.

He said roll number slips to all regular students had been dispatched on their colleges’ addresses while to private students on their home addresses. He said candidates should approach the examination section of the university if they failed to get their roll number slips till August 27, this month. —Correspondent  

Solution to IDPs problems

PESHAWAR, Aug 17: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has directed the quarters concerned to take practical steps to ameliorate the lot of IDPs as they were living in pathetic condition.

He asked the officers from Fata Secretariat to personally visit the IDP camps to know about their problems and to find out their solutions.

This he said during a presentation on overall IDP situation given to him at a meeting at Governor House on Friday.

The governor said the IDPs should not be given the feelings of beggars as they had left their homes for the sake of the nation. Mr Kausar said middle aged women would be employed to take care of IDP women as they knew the issues of women well.

The governor said there may not be the best system available but at least the basic facilities of life should be provided to IDPs. —Bureau Report  

Student gets assistance

TIMERGARA, Aug 17: The Lower Dir District Coordination Officer Mahmood Aslam Wazir on Friday met a poor talented student of Talash Siraj and gave him Rs25,000 to help him get admission in medical college, official sources told Dawn.

The DCO also promised with the student to convey his message to the government. He told the student that he would also write a letter to commissioner Malakand in this regard. Father of Siraj had published an appeal for financial assistance for his child to get him admitted in the Khyber medical college after he secured 523 marks in its entry test. The student got 8th position in the BISE Malakand intermediate examination securing 897 marks.

Rahman Gul, father of the student, said a Pakistani origin doctor from London had taken responsibility of having his child admitted to the college. —Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Aug 17: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has summoned the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to meet on Monday, August 27, 2012.

It was notified by the provincial assembly here on Friday, said an official handout. —Bureau Report

Afghans attack goats in Chitral

CHITRAL, Aug 17: Afghan desperadoes ransacked the pasture of Kalash valley of Bumburate here on Friday morning and took as many as 170 goats to Afghanistan.

The residents of Bumburate said the assailants raided the pasture all of sudden where three persons were watching the cattle heads who failed to resist the armed men equipped with weapons.They also took away with them one of the Kalash shepherds, Abad Kan, while the other rushed to the villages to tell the people about the incident.

The villagers said they rushed to the pasture and started chasing the assailants but they had already crossed over into Afghanistan.

The looters also stabbed to death twenty goats on the boundary line whose carcasses were lying there, they said. It was the second incident of its kind during the current month. —Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Aug 17: A three-day Eid gala is being organised at the Women Business Development Centre (WBDC), University Road.

Vice-Chancellor, Islamia College University (ICU), Peshawar, Ms Noor Jehan inaugurated the Eid gala.
