Boy found murdered

SWABI, Aug 16: The Kalu Khan police on Thursday recovered body of a 17-year-old boy from the Dagai area here.

The boy was subjected to severe torture before being shot dead, the police said. The police were informed by the locals of the body.

Police recovered the body and put it for identification. Later, it was buried in the heirless graveyard but the clothes of the deceased were kept which might lead to the identification of the victim. —Correspondent   

Misuse of royalty money

KOHAT, Aug 16: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf will hold a ‘royalty conference’ to make the parliamentarians accountable for the misuse and misappropriation of royalty earned from oil and gas.

The provincial senior vice president of PTI Sher Nawaz Khattak alleged the royalty earned from natural resources discovered in the region was misused and misappropriated by the elected representatives.

He said the ‘royalty conference’ would be held in Shakardarra next month. He held MNA Mufti Ibrar Sultan and provincial Minister Mian Nisar Khattak responsible for keeping people of their areas backward despite the region having abundant natural resources giving country billions of rupees of earnings.

He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was paid billions of rupees in royalty by the federal government but the people of the region had no potable water, health facilities, educational institutions, roads and paved streets. —Correspondent  

201 power thieves arrested

PESHAWAR, Aug 16: Pesco raiding teams have arrested 201 people for stealing electricity.According to a statement on Thursday 37 cases were detected in Peshawar circle, 43 in Khyber circle,19 in Mardan circle, 44 in Bannu circle, 51 in Swat circle and seven cases in Hazara circle. Similarly, over Rs0.2 million had also been recovered from the defaulters.

It was stated that the detection teams constituted on the directions of chief executive Pesco were busy removing direct hooks throughout the province. FIRs have also been lodged against the thieves.

The Pesco chief executive has appealed to the public to avoid illegal use of electricity and remove all direct hooks immediately; otherwise strict action will be taken against the culprits.

People were also urged to cooperate to overcome loadshedding and ensure uninterrupted power supply to all consumers. —Bureau Report  

Tree plantation drive starts

PESHAWAR, Aug 16: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will plant 6.640 million saplings during the monsoon season this year across the province.

This was stated by Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti after launching monsoon 2012 trees plantation campaign by planting a sapling in lawn of Chief Minister House on Thursday.

He stressed upon all government and private institutes and people to play their role in development and promotion of forests and serenity of the province so that objectives of increasing forest over could be achieved. Environment Minister Wajid Ali Khan was also present.

The chief minister hoped that the forest department will accomplish its goals in collaboration with the people. —Bureau Report  

Fallen policemen remembered

BUNER, Aug 16: The District Police Officer Jehanzeb Khan Bangash on Thursday distributed Eid gifts among families of 20 police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty ahead of Eidul Fitr to remember their sacrifices on every special occasion.

He distributed the gifts at a programme arranged by the police department, district administration and Pak army at Daggar to encourage the families of the deceased personnel.

Talking to media men Mr Bangash explained that during militancy 20 policemen had sacrificed their lives, 16 from Buner district, two from Swat and one each from Swabi and Mardan districts.

The DPO directed the concerned SHO to personally visit the houses for handing over Eid gifts to families of the fallen soldiers of Buner district. He said he himself will pay visit to families of the deceased policemen in Buner. —Correspondent  

Delay in payment of pension

PESHAWAR, Aug 16: Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour has taken notice of the news item published in a section of press regarding delay in payment of pension to retired employees of Town-I Peshawar. The minister directed the administration of Town-I to ensure payment of pension before Eidul Fitr.

The senior minister was told that payment to pensioners was not stopped by the town administration, but the matter was pending with the accountant general.

The senior minister directed the concerned authorities that the usurping of the rights of retired servants will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, implementing the directives of Bashir Bilour, arrangements were made for immediate release of pensioners' funds.

Start of payment of pension is expected from Friday.—APP

PAC body meets

PESHAWAR, Aug 16: The sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday directed the agriculture department to ensure security and necessary look after of the public properties.

The meeting was presided over by committee chairman MPA Mohammad Zamin Khan.

The meeting was attended by officials of finance, agriculture, audit and other concerned departments.—APP

Three shot dead in Mohmand

GHALANAI, Aug 16: Unknown gunmen shot dead three persons, including two women, officials said here.

The officials said miscreants barged into the houses of Said Awal and Sabz Ali in Konirion Beyankhel area and shot dead their wives.

The officials said later the miscreants entered the house of Ali Khan Gurbaz of the same locality, took him (Ali) to his hujra where they shot him dead. The motive behind the offence could not be known.

However, security forces conducted search operation in the area and arrested a suspected person.

Meanwhile, heads of peace committees of Haleemzai Malik Mohammad Ali Haleemzai, Khewazai Naik Mohammad and Baizai peace committee Malik Sultan Khan have assured full cooperation to administration and security forces.

Addressing a press conference the chiefs of peace committees expressed full confidence in the performance of political administration. —Correspondent
