QUETTA: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chauhdry on Tuesday expressed deep concern over deteriorating peace in Balochistan and said the provincial government proved incompetent in providing security to its citizens, whereas targeted killing, kidnapping for ransom and other criminal activities continue unabated.
The Chief Justice gave these remarks during the hearing of a constitutional petition filed by Balochistan Bar Association regarding poor law and order situation here at Supreme Court Quetta Registry.
The Chief Justice headed the bench comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Pervez.
The Chief Justice said the quarters responsible to guard the society against crimes seem to be in state of enjoyment and pleasure without realizing the sufferings of the masses due to the deteriorating law and order situation across the province.
Referring to the recent Spini Road firing incident in the provincial capital, the Chief Justice said the incident that left over eight citizens killed had not been incorporated in the performance report.
“The Balochistan police department performance report suggests all is well in the province,” he said and described the situation desperately worst in the province requiring the quarters concerned to work tirelessly for improvement.
He said the report also missed the details about crimes in Levies-controlled area. The Advocate General Balochistan apprised the bench that there had been 90 per cent decrease in target killing incidents as result of the provincial government's effective steps.
“A total of 204 dead bodies had been found during 2008-2011 from parts of the province while law enformcent agencies also suffered causalities to maintain peace,” he said.
About the missing persons from the province the bench was informed that a total of 152 people had actually gone missing of whom 41 had been recovered alive and seventeen of them had been reported dead.
