LAHORE, March 30: An accountability court on Friday allowed physical remand of Pakistan Railways General Manager Operations Saeed Akhtar and directed the National Accountability Bureau to produce him on April 14.
The NAB had arrested Akhtar on Thursday from Islamabad on charges of misappropriation.
A NAB counsel told the court the accused caused a huge loss to the national exchequer by selling railways scarp at a price lesser than the market value. He said the accused was also involved in the purchase of substandard oil that made many locomotives out of order.
He further said the GM also committed misappropriation in recently launched “Business Train”.
The counsel pleaded that physical remand of the accused was required for further investigation and collection of evidence.
After hearing the arguments, Judge Syed Ali Hasan Rizvi granted a 14-day physical remand of the accused.
