MINGORA/GHALANAI, March 27: Unidentified persons shot dead a former police officer in Kanju Township of Swat district on the night between Monday and Tuesday.
Police said that former deputy superintendent of police Amanullah Khan, a resident of district Karak, was attacked by the gunmen, who later threw him in a ditch in injured condition.
His family members started search for him after he did not return home. They found him lying in the ditch in seriously injured condition. He was shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police quoted Rasool Khan, a former union council nazim in Karak and son of the slain former DSP, as saying that his father had gone out for a walk in Kanju Township when he was attacked by the assailants.
Later, his body was shifted to Gurguri area in Banda Daud Shah tehsil of Karak for burial.
Meanwhile, two new checkposts were established in Atta area of Khawezai tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Tuesday.
Officials said that the checkposts were established in the area after militants blew up a primary school, a telephone exchange and a health facility on the night between Sunday and Monday.
The official said that the administration would continue to support people to check militant activities.
Meanwhile, Mohmand Taliban spokesman Mukarram Khurasani claimed responsibility for bombing the school, telephone exchange and community health centre in Khawezai area.
Also, security forces in a joint a search operation arrested 42 tribesmen under the collective responsibility clause of Frontier Crimes Regulation in Atta area. The detained persons were shifted to a lockup in Ghalanai.
Security forces also carried out a search operation in Aliangar Shinwari area of tehsil Safi and arrested a suspected militant.
