KARACHI, March 25: Police on Sunday registered an FIR of the killing of former Malir Bar Association president and his son in a Malir area on Saturday.

Former MBA president Salahuddin and his lawyer son Ali Raza were gunned down when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on them near their residence in Ghazi Town. The victims were going to their office in Malir Court in a vehicle.

The FIR (No 47/2012) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997 on the complaint of a son of Salahuddin, Syed Kazim Raza, against unidentified killers at the Malir City police station.After the killings, which investigators believed were carried out on sectarian grounds, several areas of the city, including Malir, Jafar-i-Tayyar Society, Rizvia Society, Ancholi and Abbas Town, remained tense on Sunday.

Heavy contingents of law-enforcement agencies personnel were sent to the areas to avoid any untoward incident.

Some unidentified people also set a passenger bus on fire at Kala Board in Malir late on Saturday. An inquiry team was also set up on the directives of Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan to probe into the killings and arrest the culprits.

DIG Mushtaq Maher is heading the team while DIG of CIA Manzoor Mughal, SSP Niaz Khosa and SSP Farooq Awan are members of the team.

Meanwhile, Landhi police have registered an FIR in connection with the gun attack carried out by unidentified men on a vehicle said to be part of MQM-H chief Afaq Ahmed’s security squad in Landhi 89 on Saturday night.

A policeman, Faisal Taimur, was killed while another policeman Habibullah and MQM-H activist Munawar Khan were wounded when unidentified men restored to indiscriminate firing at the vehicle.

The FIR (No 96/2012) was registered under Sections 353 (police encounter), 302 and 324 (attempted murder) of the PPC and Section 7 of the ATA against unidentified attackers on behalf of the injured police constable.
