KARACHI, March 25: Demanding concrete steps to bring an end to the killing of Shias in different cities, Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen leaders on Sunday declared that they would foil foreign conspiracies aimed at fomenting unrest in the country.

Speaking at a large gathering of people, who had converged at the Nishtar Park to attend the ‘Quran aur Ahl-i-Bait’ conference, they said that Pakistan’s prosperity was based on the unity of its people.

Opposing the restoration of supplies to the US-led Nato forces in Afghanistan, they said the imperialist forces wanted civil wars in all Muslim countries, let alone Pakistan, to exploit their resources.

“The World Bank and other financial institutions are also pursuing the US agenda to enslave the people of developing countries across the world through loans and borrowings,” they said.

Pakistan could prosper and achieve political, social and economic stability if the people rejected those following the US agenda, said the MWM leaders.

They said the feeling of deprivation prevailing in certain sections of society must be removed by solving their problems and through development work in their areas.

They resolved that they would support the people of Balochistan to fight discrimination against them. They pledged that foreign intervention in the country would not be allowed.

The MWM leaders also declared that the Millat-i-Jafria would not support those political parties in the elections who remained silent on the killing of Shias.

While the judiciary immediately took a suo motu notice of the by-poll in Tando Mohammad Khan, it did not take notice of the targeted killing of people belonging to this community in Quetta, Karachi, Parachinar and Kohistan, they said.

Allama Abbas Jafri said that the children of the founders of Pakistan had gathered in and around the Nishtar Park to reject the attacks being carried out at the behest of foreign powers. “This huge gathering has been organised against terrorism and sectarianism, as we want unity of the Muslims and invite people from all schools of though to join hands and understand the evil designs against the stability of Pakistan.”

Other MWM leaders said that conspiracies were being hatched not only against Palestine or Afghanistan but also against Pakistan and other Muslim countries. They said that the US, the UK and Israel had been supporting extremism in developing countries to incite unrest there and occupy their oil resources. They said sectarian killings in Pakistan were part of an international conspiracy.

The US stooges spreading terror in the country posed serious threat to Pakistan’s unity, they said.

The speakers included Allama Nayyar Mustafavi, Hashim Mousvi, Abdul Kahliq Asadi, Sabil Hussain Mazhari, Allama Amin Shaheedi, Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi, Allama Abbas Kumaili, Allama Yusuf Hussain Mirza, Rehman Shah, Maulana Ali Murtaza Zaidi and the women’s wing organiser Nishat Zehra.

The meeting was presided over by MWM secretary- general Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri.

The crowd comprising men, women and children raised slogans of ‘Labbaik ya Hussain’ during the speeches.
