Poisonous alcohol kills two

NOWSHERA, March 25: Two members of Hindu community died while two others were admitted to hospital in critical condition after they drank poisonous alcohol.

The incident occurred at Lamba Wera, Hindu Colony in Nowshera cantonment.

Police said four persons Imarn, Rampar Kash, Faisal and Aida Malik, who were drunk, were brought to the district headquarters hospital Nowshera in critical condition early on Sunday. It was alleged that while the hospital staff did not provide proper attention to them the hospital police kept them in custody for some time. Hospital sources said later they were taken to CMH. The police said two of them, Imran and Ramparkash, died on the way.

Leader of Hindu community Arjandas condemned the ‘detention’ of men by hospital police and alleged that alcohol was being sold in Nowshera cantonment and the police had turned a blind to the issue.—Correspondent

Two killed in Charsadda

CHARSADDA, March 25: Two persons were killed in different incidents here on Sunday.

In the first incident, a teenage boy, Irfan, 15, son of Mohammad Zada, resident of Ziam Qila, was gunned down by Younas and Riaz, sons of Nawab, residents of Ghunda Khel. One of the killers Younas is sub-inspector in police department. Mohammad Zada, father of the boy, registered FIR in Mandani police station.

In another incident, the Nisata police found body of an unknown person with bullet injuries on his head. According to police, the identity of the body was yet not known. They said the man was killed somewhere and his body was thrown near the riverside in Nisata area.—Correspondent

Poultry price increased

PESHAWAR, March 25: A sharp increase was witnessed in the price of poultry in Peshawar markets on Sunday. According to retailers price of per kilogram poultry has been increased by Rs13 since March 20.

“Till March 20 we sold it at Rs144 per kg but it was increased to Rs160 per kg on Sunday,” said Mr Marjan, a retailer at Nauthia bazaar. He said the retailers had to follow the price fixed by the wholesalers, but added the retailers in streets never followed the official rate and exploited the consumers at their will.

The office-bearers of Muttahida Poultry Market Association said that priced had risen due to the short supply from different parts of Punjab, particularly from Attock and Talagang during past one week. Another poultry trader said the dust storm of last week had also caused huge loss to the poultry industry which led to increase in its price.—Bureau Report

JI stages anti-Nato protest

TIMERGARA, March 25: The Lower Dir chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami on Sunday took out a procession against the government for calling a session of the parliament to discuss possible reopening of the Nato supply. They warned to block the route if the government restored it.

The rally, which was taken out from JI headquarters in Balambat, marched on Munda-Timergara road and converged in front of the press club. Carrying party flags, the demonstrators chanted slogans against the government, US and Nato forces. Addressing the rally JI leaders alleged present rulers could not survive without American aid.

They said restoration of Nato supply line would endanger the state security and sovereignty. They said workers of the party throughout the country would strongly resist if the government passed any resolution to restore the Nato supply line. They also demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to withdraw its decision of changes in schools’ curriculum.—Correspondent

Poor woman seeks help

MANSEHRA, March 25: A poor woman of Shinkiary has appealed to the prime minister to extend financial help for operation of her son suffering from a heart disease.

“My husband is in jail and I work at a house to feed my family. My elder son is suffering from heart disease and according to doctors he is in urgent need of operation but I have no money for his operation to protect his life,” said Nighat Naz, while speaking to reporters on Sunday.

“Some time my sons sleep without meal but I cannot ask anybody for help but the ailment of my son left me with no other option but to spread my hands for help,” she said.

Ms Naz, who is mother of two, said her eight years’ son, Sawal Jamal, was suffering from heart disease and doctors at Islamabad heart clinic and Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi had advised operation to save his life. She said expenses of the preliminary diagnostic investigations were borne by the local people.—Correspondent

Two die in road accident

TIMERGARA, March 25: Two persons were killed and eight others, including five women, were injured when a passenger vehicle plunged into a ravine at Hamza Banda area of Asbanr on Sunday evening, police and residents said.

They said an Asbanr-bound vehicle went out of driver’s control and plunged into a deep ravine when it reached Hamza Banda. Two persons identified as Syed Mohammad and Mohammad Sherin were killed on the spot while eight others, including five women, were injured in the mishap.

The dead and injured were rushed to the DHQ hospital Batkhela from where three critically injured were referred to Peshawar.—Correspondent

World literary convention

PESHAWAR, March 25: A meeting of the World Literary Convention (WLC) held here on Sunday discussed arrangements for the 2nd World Literary Convention to be held at Nishtar Hall on April 6-7.

The meeting was presided over by writer Prof Dr Yar Mohammad Maghmoom. The meeting formed eight committees for taking care of administration, security, transport, reception of guests, food, media, accommodation and entertainment of the participants and delegations of the event.

Senior writers and poets, including Mozzam Khan Lala, Ilyas Talwaal, Khalid Ayub, Qandahar Afridi, Neemroz Qais, Liaqat Seemab, Shahab Khattak, Hameedur Rahman Nadaan, Faridoon Khan and Salim Bangash, attended the meeting. A delegation from Islamabad headed by poet Iqbal Hussain Afgar also showed up at the gathering.

Prof Aseer Mangal, convener of the WLC, appreciated the support of different literary-cum-cultural Pashtun organisations for making the upcoming event a success.—Bureau Report

Students’ reunion

MARDAN, March 25: The second reunion of the Haq alumni of The Fazl-i-Haq College, known as ‘Haq Qabeela’, was held on Sunday.

The first reunion was held in April 2010 in which the services of the college to the community had been highlighted.

The college, commissioned in 1985 under the supervision of late Gen (retd) Fazl-i-Haq and its founding principal late Abdul Ali Khan, a veteran educationist, was built on the pattern of the Aitcheson College, Lahore.

During its 26 years journey, the college has played pivotal role in imparting education to students from every nook and corner of the country. — Correspondent
