TANK, March 21: Two unidentified persons shot dead a lady health visitor (LHV) in the limits of Gomal police station late on Tuesday night.

The deceased LHV was working with International Committee of the Red Cross at Kot Hakeem basic health unit.

Her brother told police that she was performing duty at the health unit when two persons, one of them wearing a veil, knocked at the door of the hospital at 12 midnight. The watchman opened the door and the assailants tried to whisk away his sister, he added.

"They shot dead my sister on resistance," he said. Police registered FIR against unidentified assailants.

It merits a mention here that more than a dozen NGOs have been working in Tank since the last year devastating flood hit the region.

CRACKDOWN:The political administration of Frontier Region of Tank arrested 15 persons and sealed 14 shops during a crackdown on Wraspon, a sub-tribe of Bittani.

The administration also imposed ban on issuing domiciles, identity cards and passports to Wraspon tribesmen and withheld salaries of Class IV employees belonging to the tribe after expiry of the deadline, set for recovery of five kidnapped officials.

The five government officials were kidnapped from the region last month. They couldn't be recovered despite hectic efforts and holding of several jirgas by the authorities.

The political administration of FR Tank launched a crackdown against the tribe under collective responsibility clause of Frontier Crimes Regulation.
