LAHORE, March 17: Robbers shot at and killed a young girl and injured her mother and two sisters at their residence near Machis Factory in Shahdara early on Saturday.

Police inquiries show three gun-toting men entered the house of schoolteacher Muhammad Din in small hours. On seeing them, Din’s wife Bashiran raised an alarm. The armed men opened fire on Bashiran and her three daughters -- Humaira, Fakhira and Asma -- and fled empty-handed.

The injured were taken to Mayo Hospital where 22-year-old Humaira succumbed to her wounds.

Police registered a case under four sections, including 302, 324 and 394, of the PPC.

FOUND DEAD: A 38-year-old factory worker was found shot dead at his quarter near Rohi Drain in Kahna on Saturday.

The police said Maqsood Khan of Azad Kashmir, who worked in a chemicals factory, apparently committed suicide over domestic issues. The police handed over the body to family after legal formalities.

The Nishtar Colony police found the body of an unidentified man, about 25, near the new vegetable market and shifted it for autopsy.

The police said the man’s throat was found slit open.

gangs busted: Garden Town circle police claim to have busted three gangs involved in street crime, arrested its eight members and seized cell phones, motorcycles and illegal weapons from them.

Garden Town ASP Tariq Aziz told a news conference at his office on Saturday the gangs had confessed to committing 48 incidents of street crime during preliminary interrogation.

He said the gangs operated in Garden Town, Faisal Town, Naseerabad, Mozang and Liaqatabad where at least 12 cases had been traced against the arrested accused.

He said five members of Wilson Gang, two of Abbasu Langra Gang and ringleader of Khalid Mahmood gang were taken into custody in a five-day effort.

The ASP said 54 cell phones, four motorcycles, eight pistols, including a toy pistol, and 36 bullets had been seized from the suspects. He said efforts were in progress to arrest the runaway suspects of the gangs.
