Bank looted

CHAKWAL, March 16: Two security guards were injured when robbers entered a bank at Chak Norang village on Chakwal-Mandra Road on Friday.

Police said two persons came to Allied Bank and fired at a guard posted inside while the other guard was injured by their accomplices outside. The other four robbers held the bank staff hostage and looted Rs195,000. Talking to Dawn, SHO Saddar police station Zulifqar Bazid said raids were being conducted to arrest the robbers. — Correspondent

Robbers’ gang arrested

RAWALPINDI, March 16:  Police captured a nine-member gang of robbers including two police officials of ‘Muhafiz squad’ allegedly involved in three robberies and recovered illegal arms from them on Friday.

Muhafiz Squad officials identified as Mohammad Kamran and Shahid Qamar had been posted at R.A Bazaar police station. The gang was arrested by a police party headed by ASI Tariq Mehmood when the robbers were reportedly planning to target a house on Adiala Road. However, two of the gang members managed to escape. — Staff Reporter

Missing person reaches home

ISLAMABAD, March 16: Another missing person has reached his house in Kohat bringing the tally of recovered persons to 11.

This was announced by the management of the missing persons camp at Parade Avenue on Friday.

K. Asif, coordinator of the camp, said Naseemullah had disappeared on February 2, 2011 from Lakki Marwat and his name was registered with the Defense of Human Rights.

Relatives of the missing persons, including women, aged persons and children have been sitting in a camp for the last over one month but in vain. — A Reporter

Bomb hoax at PIA flight

RAWALPINDI, March 16: A Multan-bound flight was searched at Benazir Bhutto Airport on Friday after the airport authorities received a call that the plane was carrying explosive material, the sources said.

The source said shortly after the call was received by the airport authorities in Multan that one of the flights expected to land there would be carrying explosives, PIA’s flight PK-681 from Islamabad was stopped and bomb disposal team was called out for search.

The source said sniffing dogs were used to search the passengers’ baggage. However, no explosive was found. Later, the flight took off on its scheduled time. — Staff Reporter

Rulers slammed

ATTOCK, March 16: Rulers are busy plundering national wealth and transferring it to foreign banks while common man is denied justice, education, health and employment.

These views were expressed by Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leader Qazi Hussain Ahmad while addressing a public meeting at Fawara Chowk on Friday.

The former JI chief said all ills of the society could be eradicated if Islamic system was implemented. “The system can be changed only through honest leadership,” he said, adding that the masses should reject the corrupt elements in the next elections and vote for sincere persons. — Correspondent
