Enmity claims life

MARDAN, March 11: A man was killed by his rivals in Irum Colony in the jurisdiction of the city police station here on Sunday.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged killers identified as Zulqarnain and Falak Naz slaughtered a 24-year-old man Abdur Rehman in the Irum Colony. Cause of the murder was stated to be an old enmity. The officials of city police station registered FIR against the alleged killers on the complaint of Abdullah, brother of the slain person.

The officials started further investigation into the matter to ascertain real motive behind the incident, besides efforts were underway to arrest the killers who had already made their escape good after committing the crime.—Correspondent

Polio vaccination

PESHAWAR, March 11: Ulema have urged the parents to vaccinate their children to help eradicate polio disease from the society.

“Treatment is treatment whether it is taken from Muslim or non-Muslim doctors as there is no such restriction in Islam,” advised the religious scholars while speaking at a district ulema congregation organised by the National Research and Development Foundation (NRDF) with the help of the Unicef here on Sunday.

More than 150 ulema participated in the conference, appealing to the parents to create a healthy society by immunising their children. They vowed to provide every possible support in the ongoing polio vaccination campaign.  They said due to lack of awareness some parents and clerics refused polio vaccination to children, which was affecting their health.

Highlighting the importance of polio vaccine in the light of Quran and Sunnah, the religious leaders said the healthcare was essential for making the society healthier and stronger.—Bureau Report

Army men laid to rest

KOHAT, March 11: The lieutenant and a sepoy of Frontier Crops, who died in a clash with militants in Khyber Agency on Saturday, were buried with full military honour in their ancestral villages in Kohat on Sunday.

Lieutenant Wajeehullah and two FC men had died in a fierce clash in Khyber Agency. More than two dozen militants were also killed in the clash. The body of Lieutenant Wajeehullah was brought to Ustarzai area where his funeral prayer was offered at central Imambargah. He was laid to rest with full military honour.

A large number of people from different walks of life, army and police officials, relatives and friends participated in the funeral.

The other victim, sepoy Mohammad Ashoor, was laid to rest in Sur Gul village along the Indus Highway.

His funeral was also attended by a large number of people and was presented gun salute after burial.—Correspondent

Political awareness

LAKKI MARWAT, March 11: ANP MPA Yasmeen Zia has said the four years of ANP government has created political awareness among the womenfolk of the district.

Speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating an electrification scheme in Tajori on Sunday, she said traditional barriers would no more be a hindrance for the females to take part in political activities.

“No one can now keep the women restricted to the boundary walls of their houses,” she said, adding the women had the vision and capacity to work for the progress of the district.

ANP's local leaders Ajmal Khan Marwat, Mamraiz Khan, Humayun Khan, Murad Ali Khan and others also accompanied her.

She announced Rs1 million for the uplift schemes and said the provincial government had spent huge chunk of funds on developmental works in all public welfare sectors. She said Rs200 million had been released to Wapda to launch work on Kurrum Tangi Dam project.—Correspondent

DSL service in Mohmand

GHALANAI, March 11: The residents of Mohmand Agency have demanded of the PTCL to start DSL service in the area.

In a statement president of Mohmand welfare organisation Mir Afzal Mohmand, president of Mohmand union Salim Sardar and local leader of PPP-S Ghulam Hussain Mohib demanded of the PTCL officials to immediately start DSL service in the area.—Correspondent

Students learn skills

PESHAWAR, March 11: Around two hundred students of various medressahs of Peshawar and Swat have completed a two-month course to learn different skills.

Peace Education and Development Foundation (PEAD), an NGO which organised the course, held a ceremony here on Sunday to distribute computers, sewing machines, mobile repairing kits, gift hampers and other goods among the students, who completed their course.

A large number of students and teachers of different seminaries attended the ceremony.—Bureau Report
