KARACHI, March 7: A sessions court on Wednesday issued a notice to the SHO of the Darakhshan police station on a plea moved by a relative of a son of the Balochistan chief minister seeking registration of a case against police.

He alleged that the police deprived them of cash and other valuables and in the meantime he made a call to his brother-in-law, Yadgar Raisani, the son of Balochistan CM Nawab Aslam Raisani, for help.

But after hearing the name of Yadgar, the applicant maintained, the policemen got irritated and subjected them to torture.

He further contended that he approached the police station concerned for registration of a case, but instead of entertaining his plea the police lodged an FIR against him, Yagdar and others.

He requested the court to order the SHO to register a case against the policemen.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Abdul Razzaq summoned the SHO of the Darakshan police station on March 12.

IG told to take action against 'delinquent' policeman

A judicial magistrate on Wednesday directed the Sindh police chief to take disciplinary action against a policeman for defying court orders.

The magistrate was hearing a case against four men - Mohammad Sajid, Zhaid Hussain, Waqas and Zahid Hussain - who have been booked for allegedly attacking a police party within the remit of the Clifton police station in November last year.

Assistant Sub-Inspectpr Hussain Bux Bhutto was the investigation officer of the case registered under Sections 324 (attempted murder), 353 (criminal assault to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The IO appeared in court on Dec 29 after the court issued a show-cause notice against him over a delay in submission of a charge-sheet. He sought time and the court granted him three days, but he failed to file the charge-sheet.

The court issued another show-cause notice to the IO on Jan 10, but he did not turn up.

Judicial Magistrate (south) Hatim Aziz Solangi directed the Inspector-General of Sindh police to take disciplinary action against the 'delinquent' IO and depute a responsible officer to investigate the case and submit a charge-sheet within three days.

Earlier, citing an inordinate delay in the submission of the charge-sheet the counsel for one of the suspects moved an application and requested the court to release his client under Section 63 (discharge of accused apprehended) of the criminal procedure code.

However, the public prosecutor, Shamim Ahmed, opposed the plea and requested the court to issue a directive to the IGP in this regard.

Notices issued in journalist murder case

An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday issued notices to the prosecutor and the counsel for a complainant in a case pertaining to the murder of a television journalist.

Five accused - Faisal Mahmood alias Nafsiati, Syed Mohammad Ali Rizvi, Shahrukh alias Mani, Naveed alias Polka and Shakil alias Malik - have been charged with the murder of Wali Khan Babar, a reporter of a private TV channel, on Jan 13, 2011 within the remit of the Supermarket police station.

The defence counsel moved an application and contended that the complainant's counsel, Arshad Iqbal Cheema, was the special public prosecutor of the administrative court of all the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi when the accused were arrested and charge-sheeted. Thus, he said, Mr Cheema could not stand for the complainant party.

Judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon of the ATC-III issued notices to the public prosecutor and the counsel for the complainant to argue on the plea on March 15.

A case (FIR 8/2011) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
