SSC, HSSC exams

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) annual examinations-2012 will commence on March 20 and April 10, respectively.

According to a spokesman for Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), roll number slips of all regular SSC candidates have been dispatched to their institutions and those of private candidates to their addresses. In case the roll number slip is not received by any candidate, he or she should immediately contact controller examinations on telephone No 051-9250606. — A Reporter

Two transvestites arrested

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Two transvestites were arrested by Industrial Area police on charges of looting an armyman in Faizabad on Tuesday while hunt for their other accomplices is underway.

Police said Waqar Faisal, a sepoy in army, was intercepted by some transvestites behind a hotel in Faizabad when he reached there from Lahore in the wee hours of Tuesday.

They forcibly took him to a deserted place and snatched Rs22,000 from him and escaped from the scene.

Later, on the victim’s complaint, the police registered a case and succeeded in arresting Saira and Monial Shahzadi. — Staff Reporter

Boy killed

MUZAFFARABAD, March 6: A boy was killed after his motorbike plunged into a ravine near here on Tuesday evening.

According to witnesses, Bilal, 18, a 2nd year student, met the accident while negotiating a curve on narrow and steep Pir Chinasi Road. —Staff Correspondent

Corruption not to be tolerated

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Pledging zero tolerance against corrupt elements, SSP Mohammad Yousuf Malik said on Tuesday that the police force would be purged of black sheep to make it effective and vibrant against the crimes.

He said this while addressing a briefing to the police officials at National Library. SSP renewed the commitment to make Islamabad police corruption-free saying that no one within the department would be allowed to indulge in any wrongdoing and only those following the policy of zero tolerance against corruption would survive. — Staff Reporter

Nine outlaws arrested

ISLAMABAD, March 6: Capital police on Tuesday arrested nine outlaws including a woman drug peddler and recovered narcotics, weapons and stolen items from them, a police spokesman said.

During checking, Golra police took two alleged drug peddlers, Johar Zaman and Shaukat Perveen, in custody after recovering five kilogram hashish from them. The police also intercepted two persons, Mohammad Iftikhar and Farman Elahi, and recovered a 12-bore carbine and a dagger from them.

Likewise, Tarnol police nabbed an outlaw, Mohammad Amir, after recovering a 30-bore pistol from him. Similarly, Sabzi Mandi police recovered a 30-bore pistol from Adnan Ali which led to his arrest.

Moreover, Shahzad Town police arrested three alleged thieves, Asif Ahmed, Khuram Zaman and Mohammad Zeeshan, and recovered stolen items worth Rs100,000 from their possession. — Staff Reporter

Anti-dengue drive

MURREE, March 6: On the special directive of Punjab government, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) took special measures to prevent the outbreak of dengue virus in the hilly resort.

TMA staff visited various areas and removed old tyres displayed outside the shops in Jika Gali, Kuldanna, Sunny Bank and other areas.

Under the supervision of Chaudhry Shehryar, Town Officer Revenue (TOR), a specially-formed team visited various bazaars to identify the spots where anti-dengue spray would be carried out.

In this regard, a seminar was organised in Lower Topa to create awareness among the common people about the preventive measures to avoid spread of dengue fever. — Correspondent

Protest against ‘land mafia’

MURREE, March 6: People of Salgran village on Tuesday protested against alleged land mafia and blocked the main Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir highway near Tret Police post.

The protesters claimed that the land mafia had purchased the land that existed only on papers and were now trying to occupy their land.

ASP, Murree, Abbas Majeed Marwat reached the spot and negotiated with the protesters and got the road opened. He assured the protesters that if the police inspector was found guilty strict action would be taken against him. He called both the parties in his office on Wednesday for an inquiry. — Our Correspondent
