ISLAMABAD, March 5: Two contractors of Capital Development Authority (CDA) were booked by Aabpara for issuing a bogus cheque to the civic body to get parking contract of Fruit and Vegetable Market (Sabzi Mandi), police said on Monday.

The cheque was issued on April 13, 2011, but the CDA lodged a complaint with police on March 3, 2011. In response to the complaint lodged by CDA Director Karamatullha, the police registered a case and were on a lookout for the accused.

The complainant told police that the CDA awarded a parking contract of Sabzi Mandi to Naveed Anjum and Mohammad Mumtaz. In this regard, they submitted the cheque worth Rs15 million which later proved fake.

Mr Karamatullah when contacted said that the complaint was lodged after so long a period because it was necessary to get approval from the seniors and follow the procedure in this regard.

He said earlier the case was referred to recovery team of CDA and magistrate shortly after the cheque was bounced. At this, the contractors returned some amount to CDA but later they defaulted.

Afterwards, CDA approached the police and got the case registered against them for the recovery of remaining amount; the official said and added the contract was also canceled.

The police said the case was registered against the accused as they failed to appear before the police regarding inquiry of the issue. According to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), a senior officer inquired the issue by questioning the complainant and the accused before the registration of case regarding a bogus cheque.
