ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday said it has started a mobile text messaging service for confirming names of voters in the electoral rolls, DawnNews reported.

The voters can confirm their enrollment in the rolls by sending a message containing their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number to 8300.

Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmad Khan told the media that several recommendations were under consideration to make the election process more transparent.

Khan said that the commission was also considering making 10-15 per cent turnout rate of the women voters mandatory.

He said amendments would be introduced to curb the incidents of aerial firing in elections as well as trimming down election campaigning expenses by the candidates.

Khan said that the electoral rolls would be published on May 25.
