KARACHI, Feb 27: An anti-corruption court on Monday registered a direct complaint against an inspector of the anti-corruption establishment and one of his associates for allegedly taking a bribe from a citizen.
Complainant Salah Uddin moved an application in the court stating that inspector Haider Bux Shawani had approached him three months back claiming that a man, Ateeq, had filed a complaint against him.
The applicant stated that he had purchased a production plant from Ateeq around five years ago after completing all legal formalities and placed the documents before the inspector, who kept insisting that the documents were not legal. The applicant alleged the inspector demanded Rs50,000 to “legalise the documents’.
Mr Salahuddin stated that the money was given to the inspector through a man, Imran, but after some time the inspector told him that the judge and other officials concerned were not clearing the documents, and asked for Rs150,000 more.
The applicant further alleged that the inspector threatened him when he refused to pay more money and also wrongly informed him that the court had issued a warrant for his arrest.
The special provincial anti-corruption court, Karachi, Judge Rashida Asad recorded the applicant’s statement under Section 200 (examination of complainant) of the criminal procedure case and registered a direct complaint against inspector Shawani and Imran under Sections 161 (public servant taking gratification other then legal remuneration in respect of an official act) and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court also ordered issuance of warrants for the arrest of the suspects.
