ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office summoned the acting US ambassador on Monday to protest against a resolution tabled in the House of Representatives for the right to self-determination for the people of Balochistan.

This was the second time US Charge d' Affaires Richard Hoagland was summoned to the Foreign Office in seven days on the issue of Balochistan.

"Ambassador Richard Hoagland, US Charge d' Affaires, was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. A strong protest was lodged with him with regard to the tabling of a resolution on Balochistan in the US Congress," an FO statement said.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher had last week tabled the resolution which said the people of Balochistan were being subjected to violence and extra-judicial killings and they had the "right to self-determination and to their own sovereign country; and they should be afforded the opportunity to choose their own status".

During his meeting at the FO, Ambassador Hoagland was told that the Congressional move "was contrary to the spirit of friendly relations and violative of the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and recognised norms of inter-state conduct".

He was asked to convey serious concern of the government of Pakistan to the US administration.
