Man shot dead

RAWALPINDI, Feb 12: A man was shot dead outside his house in Loco Shed police area on Sunday, police said.

Ameer Nawab, 45, a resident of Bajaur Agency, had been residing in a rented room in Loco Shed police area. He was on his way to fetch water from a nearby tubewell on Sunday morning when he was shot and injured by an unknown person.

Inspector Jawad Shah, who is leading investigation, revealed that the deceased returned to Rawalpindi from Bajaur Agency three days ago. He said the injured was removed to DHQ hospital where he died in the afternoon.

Police said after the murder, brother of the victim, Ghulam Mohammad, was informed by the police who received his body. Initially, he was not interested in getting a case registered, however, the police convinced him in this regard. The investigating officer said old enmity seemed to be motive behind the murder; however, the complainant did not nominate any person in the FIR. — Staff Reporter

Fire leaves three injured

ATTOCK, Feb 12: Three persons sustained burn injuries in a gas leakage fire incident here.

As per reports, fire suddenly erupted at the house of a local resident Haji Raja Nazir Ahmed due to gas leakage. As a result three inmates Mohammad Yaqoob, Basharat and Mohammad Zafar were seriously injured.

On the information, Rescue 1122 rushed to the scene and shifted them to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital. Later, two of them were referred to the burn unit of a hospital at Kharian due to their critical condition. — Correspondent

CDA focal persons

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12: Focal persons of the rank of deputy director would be appointed in different sectors of the capital to deal with day-to-day problems of the residents.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) spokesman said on Sunday that the decision to this effect was taken during a high-level meeting held on Saturday.

It was also decided that CDA inquiries in different sectors would work under the focal persons. In this way their performance would become more efficient and effective.

“The officer concerned will be responsible for the area assigned to him and he would take up various issues pertaining to his jurisdiction,” the spokesman said.

Commenting on the move, CDA Chairman Farkhand Iqbal said focal persons would help facilitate the residents and traders through close coordination and would keep regular liaison with the representatives of traders’ associations, residents and the sector citizen committees.— Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 12: World Radio Day is being celebrated on Monday to recognise the marvel of this mode of communication and harness its power for the benefit of all.

The main objective of the day is to raise awareness among the public of the importance of radio, encourage decision makers to establish and provide access to information through radio as well as enhance networking and international cooperation among broadcasters.

According to International Telecommunication Union, radio is the most prevalent mass medium with the ability to reach 95 per cent of planet’s population. Radio can reach remote communities and marginalised groups and the internet and mobile applications have further increased its scope and potential.

Since the first broadcast over 100 years ago, radio has proven to be a powerful information source for mobilising social change and a central point for community life. — Our Reporter
